Is It Feasible To "Go Dark" Against Digital Surveillance?

Going 'Dark' would mean: No social media (FB, Twitter, etc.), No internet - not even a Google search, No cell phone especially smart phones, but really ANY cell phone and possibly landlines too, No credit cards - all cash. No hospital visits. No newer cars (Tesla) gathers telemetry. Even older cars in most areas are tracked with licence plate readers. No large sporting events.

It is virtually impossible (pun intended). Furthermore, it is not going away. Vigilant awareness is only feasible route.

Funny, Octo and I did that and we were never happier.
We spent the better part of a year in a cabin in the woods.
No phones, no computers, no TV, just a radio.
It was the happiest time of my life, and frankly we can't wait until TSHTF! yay.gif

Let's see what they come up with as new ways to block surveillance.

I'm somewhat of a prepper, but I have no illusions about a "fun" disaster.

They problem is that "they" are always coming up with new ways to track you. I don't have a smart phone, only a 3G flip phone, and I don't use Google or Facebook. That probably helps some.

I have a rather dark sense of humor. chuckle.gif Pay no attention.

Depends on where you are I guess. We basically have that setup available already. It's easy to "disappear" in this country.

Well I think Google and Facebook are very interested in their bottom line $$$ more than anything else; so keep protesting and watch their stocks tumble.

We have fresh water, all the fish we can catch, bear, deer, moose, lumber, we know all the wild edibles, and even some you're not supposed to eat.
Thing is... if everything is irradiated all that goes out the window. bored.gif
But if it's conventional war we're surviving it in terms of food and clean water, of course, not everybody lives in Finland.

Living off the land in a crisis isn't at all the same as going dark against digital surveillance. I agree that you wouldn't be easy to track if you abandoned technology and commerce, but I mean how to minimize tracking surveillance in the modern world.

Fair enough.
We're not on FB, in fact we removed KB's account just a few days ago.
Until recently I was on an old Nokia.'
https://jolla.com/
They won't let you buy these phones in the states, runs sailfish os, all apps are sandboxed.
You can search my real name on the internet, and you wont get a single hit, so I've been doing a pretty good job.
Another biggie, is use a Linux distro if possible.
Unfortunately I need windows for AutoCAD, music production and to test websites I build, but I limit my surfing on Windows. You can take it all one step further with an encrypted VPN, they are dirt cheap.

I have a VPN, but I mostly use it to hide video streaming from my ISP. I think they began throttling my connection when they noticed streaming. I have Windows 8.1 and 10 on older laptops, but use an android tablet for internet surfing.

I hope the general public speaks and acts to oppose all this new digital surveillance. That is the solution in the long term.

Agreed, but look how many were shocked when they discovered "they" were fakebook's business model... and the NSA et al spies on everyone all the time.
In this era, nobody online should kid themselves, every key stroke, voice chat, video or photos shared are shared with more people than intended.
The general public needs to be educated, and that just hasn't happened as it defeats the very purpose of all the Orwellian bullshit they've worked so diligently to put in place.
It's a bummer.
