Please don't claim real food is "too expensive" to eat. What's "too expensive" is unhealthy processed and fast foods.

It is a truism that food is expensive in America. What if we ask, "is real food expensive in America?"

Very Interesting. So many claiming people are fat because they can't afford healthy food. Article claims it isn't so, that people just love convenience.

Food is something you want to spend money on. I have to admit I'm pretty awful when it comes down to eating chuckle.gif Spent a hundred euros just yesterday stocking up on essentials; xylitol, crystal salt, cocoa, blueberries etc etc...

Yes real food is expensive, but when you cut out wheat and sugar from your diet you won't be craving the same amount of food. beercheer.gif

Was thinking about how, when my hubby gets a craving for fast food he goes to A&W, spends $35 on one meal for three people. Just burgers, no fries or salads, it's the convenience. So..

A dozen farm eggs $3.50
2 romaine lettuce $4.00
dressing $4.00
tin of olives $3.00
celery $2.00
1 sweet Spanish onion $0.50
3 green peppers $2.00
1 litre cream $3.00

$22.00 for two full meals. No meat but one could buy a small ham for $10 and use maybe $2.00 worth in the omelette. If one ate pork damned.gif

Anyways works out to about $12.00 for one meal for three. About 1/3 of what A&W cost for reguritated garbage.

I'd add cheese but Herc may be lurking lmao.gif

But can you feed 10 people at a fast food joint for 5 euros?
No. One maybe.
So why all the b.s. about the only reason poor people are fat is because they can't afford to eat healthy?

lack of maalaisjärkeä? chuckle.gif

Herc? lol.gif yeah now and then.

Maalaisjärkeä is a great word lmao.gif Thanks!

I think the bs is because people don't know how to cook. damned.gif My son calls me regularly to ask how to make this or that dish... chuckle.gif

Real food is really not that expensive when you compare it to fast food.

Yes it's cool and I hope my kids one day will appreciate having an awful mom lmao.gif No they're actually grown up enough to see what I did there.

Fast food culture isn't really that big around here, good thing I think people still like to make their own meals.

Hmmm...I don't really know what people are on about there 13.gif

I've managed to stick to local eco basic foods and even the occasional
local and foreign eco treat all these years, and I haven't been exactly
rich...what's the prob..?

But of course, I don't have anyone depending on me.

You're not exactly a typical example of how and why people eat AS.chuckle.gif You eat to live while a whole lot of people use food for comfort or whatever.

Just saying most people could probably afford to eat non-toxic,
ecologically produced comfort-or-whatever-foods, too - just
skip something unnecessary and redirect the funds, so to speak.

Lots of incredibly good, healthy eco snacks and goodies to be had.
Better pay a little more and avoid toxic techno/sugarsweets.

Like these cinnamon-roasted almonds:

It's interesting to note that the use of food banks is ever-increasing and people that come from other countries, where they are accustomed to cooking their meals, do not want canned food laden with sugar and salt.

So, here in Canada and I'm sure elsewhere, they have victory garden-like programs as well as asking for donations of money to buy fresh food for cooking. Some of the most requesed items cans of tomatoes, lentils, and pasta; just to name a few.
