Because science

Because the world is getting warmer, it’s getting colder, too.

An odd, disruptive meteorological condition “is an incredibly effective tool to get the public to understand better how climate is going to affect them,” Francis said. In other words, when icicles are forming in your swimming pool in Houston, you just know something is going on.

chuckle.gif Climate scientists need a good global worming, the ones not on someones payroll and meteorologists beg to differ.

In the meantime, the sun is still inactive.

What politics from both sides wants to teach us is that things are never complex. If you have your little package and something doesn't fit into that package, You don't know what to make of it so you want to dismiss it or then you will have to do the work of reconsidering your assumptions. - Michael Malice

Right, inactivity means colder weather, activity means warmer. They missed the biggest element in the equation.

There's more here than we can imagine.

Quote:Jet streams are typically continuous over long distances, but discontinuities are common. ... Each large meander, or wave, within the jet stream is known as a Rossby wave (planetary wave). Rossby waves are caused by changes in the Coriolis effect with latitude.

More science -

Quote:To add an interesting twist to the story, 2017 was the 4th consecutive year that Earth's rotation has slowed. This is why the research team believes we can expect more earthquakes in 2018, it is the last of a 5-year slowdown in Earth's rotation.

Global warming is settled, the debate has been over for some time. Trump pulled out of the Paris climate accord and we are headed for the end.

The why.

Quote:Multiple lines of independent evidence confirm that human activities are the primary cause of the global warming of the past 50 years. The burning of coal, oil, and gas, and clearing of forests have increased the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by more than 40% since the industrial revolution, and methane and nitrous oxide emissions from agriculture and other human activities add to the atmospheric burden of heat-trapping gases.

Because human-induced warming is superimposed on a background of natural variations in climate, change is not uniform over time: short-term fluctuations in the long-term upward trend are natural and expected. Nonetheless, global temperatures are still on the rise and are expected to rise further. Climate change will accelerate significantly if global emissions of heat-trapping gases continue to increase.
