7-foot alligator removed from drain pipe

İmage

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. - Unlike the alligators of urban legend that lurk in Manhattan’s sewers, a real-life reptile took up residence in a drain pipe in an otherwise quiet neighborhood near the Ulamay Wildlife Sanctuary -- belching menacing, rumbling hisses at passers-by.

Since December, the alligator inhabited the grated end of a stormwater pipe off Lakewood Circle. And nearby humans feared for the animal’s health and safety.

Neighborhood guesstimates of the gator’s length ranged from 4 to 10 feet -- only the fearsome, scaly snout was typically visible, poking out of the pipe. Whatever its length, the toothy reptile apparently was not happy with its living situation.

Yes I do. I was out in the field once checking out existing topography against survey notes. Had my nose in the little survey booklet while looking at trees that needed to be cleared and grubbed. I suddenly heard something move behind me and I stopped in my tracks and did a 180...
I had waked within a couple feet of a big one lying by the bank of a small pond catching some rays.

I nearly shït myself. Thankfully he slid back in the water, I apparently got so close it annoyed him. Meeting them on land usually goes quite okay, spent some time at Myakka park, they were everywhere.

No probs, unless you decide to go swimming. chuckle.gif

I've never eaten turtle, but they make great pets. I had an eastern box turtle for over 20 years.
He always had the run of the house, they are easily trained with a pan of water, in the wild they use the bathroom in the water to avoid predators, so it's a natural thing.

I ate soft-shell turtle

Gator and turtle both taste like chicken seriously.

If you didn't know it was gator you would think chicken nuggets cuz they prepare the gator in nuggets.

Gator is also the best source of calcium.

And yes, venison IS dry, if you don't know how to cook it. Too bad she didn't throw that back at him.
