A mysterious radiation release that has indefinitely shuttered the federal government's only permanent nuclear waste dump may have been caused by a change in the type of kitty litter that is mixed with the toxic waste.

[...]
Jim Conca, a scientist who worked at the facility from 2000 to 2010, told the newspaper he believes a change from non-organic to organic litter caused a chemical reaction inside a waste drum, releasing the radioactive isotopes.

Comforting to know we have such highly advanced technology as cat litter, that protects us from radiation sickness. I hope they get that litter changed. wtf2.gif blink.gif
What the heck did I just read?

Well, my husband thinks kitty litter is great for many uses, he prefers using it instead of ice melt and sand during Winter. It can be used to turn liquid waste into solid waste for disposal, such as paint, grease, nuclear waste (wtf2.gif), etc.

What's interesting is that the non-organic kitty litter held in the radioactity isotopes.

Strange, because it doesn't really do so much to take the edge off cat litter. damned.gif Hard to believe they are using something of this nature as protection against radiation, but if it works... okay I guess.

For sure, use what works, but how does it work to keep radioactive isotopes contained? Didn't they do this research beforehand? dunno.gif

Burying those spent fuel rods in a pile of kitty litter sounds like a plan. Now they need to create a giant robot kitty. hmm.gif

Or plan to add kitty litter to the planned ice wall?

Clay is a good medium for drawing out radiation from the body. Were they using clay?

Pray for me. hug.gif

Well, apparently some kitty litter contains clay. I hear bentonite is one of the best for internal use.

There are many different types of cat litters available, but essentially most of them fall into three distinct categories: clay-based, silica-based, and biodegradable.

The addition of a special type of clay, known as bentonite, does allow the litter to clump when it becomes wet. This type of clay-based litter has become known as clumping litter as opposed to the traditional non-clumping clay litter (which contains other forms of clay rather than bentonite).
