Lie of the Year: 'If you like your health care plan, you can keep it'

It was a catchy political pitch and a chance to calm nerves about his dramatic and complicated plan to bring historic change to America’s health insurance system.

"If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," President Barack Obama said -- many times -- of his landmark new law.

But the promise was impossible to keep.

So this fall, as cancellation letters were going out to approximately 4 million Americans, the public realized Obama’s breezy assurances were wrong.

Boiling down the complicated health care law to a soundbite proved treacherous, even for its promoter-in-chief.  Obama and his team made matters worse, suggesting they had been misunderstood all along. The stunning political uproar led to this: a rare presidential apology.

Last year's biggest lie was uttered by the same liar: Benghazi was a reaction to a YouTube video.

The greatest lie of this century also goes to the same liar:

"...will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Or should the biggest lie of this century be given to the same liar for presenting a fraudulent birth certificate?

Pray for me. hug.gif

They have to impeach him I dont think they just kick him out even if they wanted to do so. The problem with that is named Joe Biden.

What we need is the whole government taken down and rebuilt because the same people that control Bama will just control the next puppet that is put in place. Bama gets the blame because he is the "quarterback" right now but the "coach" calling the plays is somebody else.

I read where the ultimate anti-Dem ad is already out there, they expect the GOP to use it.
First it begins with Obama saying the "if you like your insurance, you can keep it" Then it flashes to the "lie of the year" award. chuckle.gif
The GOP may end up with both the House and Senate before this is over, of course - not everyone will agree with that assertion, but I'm calling it like I see it at the moment.

Hi JayRodney,

yay.gif Look forward to seeing the ad,,,hope it does the trick,,,

agree with you,,,think they will lose the Senate as well,,,

sure hope so,,,not that I think that will fix everything,,,

but this print and spend,,,buy the votes,,,is dangerous,,,

only difference between now and Jimminey Carter is during that time,,,

everyone wanted a raise,,,now everyone is afraid of losing their job,,,

so stays the same or even get pay cuts,,,preventing a lot of inflation,,,

for the moment,,,and at 120 percent debt to GDP,,,we were there in WW2,,,

we will survive,,,for now,,,but cutting the .gov has got to start,,,

my opinion of course...

Apologies don't fix the problem. The damage is done and we still have to be enslaved by an unconstitutional law.

Hey Softy! The FED is tapering QE - I expect a serious downturn around the corner with stocks tumbling in the next few weeks.
They passed this latest budget where Harry Weed refused to allow any amendments to the budget deal that just passed the Senate.
This has allowed major problems in the legislation to make it into law, according to Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions.
He's in hardcore "I'll do what I fekk want" mode. The GOP gave him enough rope to hang himself, and the old geezer is to dimwitted to realize what he's done to veterans benefits, et al. with this bull in a china shop approach, but then again, most elderly boxers are brain damaged.

rofl.gif I like our spinderellas, occasionally they actually can bring some truth to the table. The problem is, the MSM can not be trusted.
Fox spins so hard to the right, and CNN (does anybody recall what a CNN even is anymore? lol) is so busy sucking down that lefty protein shake, that neither can be trusted to deliver facts.
We all suffer due to inaccurate "reporters" and the MSM that can't get shït right because of their own personal agendas.

Glad to see you finally discovered a fact check website! ...still gave you one star anyways.

Everything seems to be accurate but I found one problem with a statement they made...

But what really set everyone off was when Obama tried to rewrite his slogan, telling political supporters on Nov. 4, "Now, if you have or had one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law, and you really liked that plan, what we said was you can keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law passed."

...now I understand their position when it comes to this comment and it is rather a simple one. IF YOUR PLAN CHANGED THEN IT IS NO LONGER THE SAME PLAN!!! People seem to not realize this truth. Also, cancellation figures need to be compared to previous years before these ACA regulations went into effect... every year plans are canceled by providers for whatever reasons. It would be unfair to also blame the ACA for those numbers.

I would also like to comment on the reason why they are forcing older women and men to cover maternity and other female specific care. While it may seem ridiculous to the ignorant masses ...in reality is simply a way of leveling costs between men and women. Before there was a gender based disparity of costs... insurance for women has always been higher. This is their way of making it so insurance companies can no longer charge increase rates based on gender.

"The chance of me having a child at this age is zero. So, you know, I ask the president, why do I have to pay an additional $5,000 a year for maternity coverage that I will never, ever need?" asked Deborah Persico.

...also that figure is the amount her insurance company is quoting her OUTSIDE OF THE EXCHANGE!! ...and therefor not valid. Her insurance company simply sent her a letter of increase based on the increased comprehensive coverage required under the ACA using the old pricing models... basically they are trying to scam her into paying more instead of offering exchange prices or recommending to her that she apply through the marketplace (and risk losing her business to a competitor)

Now I don't expect Cuckootard to understand any of this but I post for those few here who are capable of independent thought and not merely regurgitating what they read coming from the GOP bubble heads.

Doubtful... with the website up and rolling smoothly and with people now signing up in droves... unless there are new yet unforeseen disasters coming?(I think they delayed the employer mandate for another year?) We are going to see many many people happy with their new plans including those who were canceled and forced to find new insurance on the marketplace ...that is of course if the back end is tied properly to the HMOs by Jan 1st. Something I am sure they have been working vigorously on secretly since the roll out... guess we shall see when people use their news plans in the beginning of the year.

If no new major hiccups then I don't think many will care anymore that Obama misrepresented that they could keep their plans... as they will by then have new better cheaper plans. We may actually see the GOP lose the house... especially after that bullshit they pulled with shutdown. People aren't going to forget that and they will see it as a childish futile act ...unless Obamacare somehow fails between now and the midterm elections. ...and don't forget the millions of poor voters in red states that would now have insurance if those states didn't opt out of 100% federally funded medicaid expansion ...basically those republican states just shït on a huge number of low income families. That isn't going to gain them any votes in the midterms either...
