COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Starting at 10 o'clock Friday, two senior non-commissioned officers from Fort Benning will be on courtesy patrol. The soldiers will be wearing arm bands that read, "Courtesy Patrol."

Fort Benning Commanding General Robert Brown and Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson made the announcement earlier this week.

They need to increase security in Uptown Columbus comes after two weekend incidents in early April.

In the first incident, police say five soldiers beat another man. The beating was witnessed near First Ave. and 10th street- sending the victim - a former solider - to the hospital with head injuries.

The other, a shooting that left four injured - one fatally - at Mario’s restaurant on Broadway. A man is charged in connection with the assault.

Not really, The MP's try and keep the military personnel in line while on leave in the civilian streets as if they all end up in jail who would defend our nation in a time of national emergency.

Haven't you ever seen the movie Stripes?

No, I haven't I watch very little tv. I guess it would make sense that MPs keep military personel in line, but if they're creating such havoc, keep them on base.

No, it was a very popular Bill Murray movie back in the 80's, A comedy about the military, was good stuff.

Everybody needs some R&R and when person ell stay on base with no alcohol or mixing with the opposite sex and they finally get out shït does happen. Usually involves alcohol and girls. Girls like to go to bars close to a military base to get free drinks from the boys that have been locked on base, they usually have money as no where to spend it. Girl flirts with several different guys to get drinks and 1-guy gets jealous and a fight usually starts.

The movie I was referring to had guys just finishing up Basic Training and out on leave. Trouble/fight starts and MP's bring home the drunks to their Commanding Officer. CO asks to explain and the 1-spokesman starts by saying "Well on the way to the Bingo Parlor things got fouled up..." Hilarious

rofl.gif Yeah I did a stint in the reserves, I know how it goes on base. But there's usually bars for them to go to...but not women. So it figures they'd go off base yeah. Still I don't like it, smells like creeping martial law.

All that for one incident involving military?

Damn, in my hometown there used to be fights every weekend with Marines that came in from Camp Lejeune. Those guys never needed the MPs to come save them. They took their ass whoopins like men.

Four soldiers and a former soldier? I bet there is more to this than meets the eye.

.

I am not your rolling wheels, I am the highway
I am not your carpet ride I am the sky
I am not your blowing wind, I am the lightning
I am not your autumn moon, I am the night
The night
