So, archaeologists exhumed the suspected remains of Mona Lisa. After carbon dating to confirm the time period, they will then attempt to reconstruct her face. Thus proving Mona Lisa was a woman.

Update: So, it will take a few more years before we see DNA confirmation.

Reconstructing her face won't be possible due to there being no skull in the tomb (due to degradation via flooding).

But, there is documented proof that the person who posed for Leonardo was a woman.

Yes, it's an ongoing conspiracy discussion.

Yeah I recall hearing it was Leonardo himself young and in drag or something. I never actually read that, it may have been a comment from a whack a doodle dandy that I've chosen to repeat.
That was kinda' the rumor.

Yeah, the conspiracy is that the person posing as Mona Lisa was Leonardo's gay boyfriend in drag. I am sure there are other conspiracies, as the one JR mentioned. Anyway, archaeologists are trying to prove the poser was indeed a woman.

Here is another odd theory, that the Mona Lisa depicts both a man and a woman.

Wasn't it rather common in Leonardo's time,
to use male models in female roles?
