More businesses are mellowing out over hiring pot smokers

FPI Management, a property company in California, wants to hire dozens of people. Factories from New Hampshire to Michigan need workers. Hotels in Las Vegas are desperate to fill jobs.

Those employers and many others are quietly taking what once would have been a radical step: They're dropping marijuana from the drug tests they require of prospective employees. Marijuana testing - a fixture at large American employers for at least 30 years - excludes too many potential workers, experts say, at a time when filling jobs is more challenging than it's been in nearly two decades.

"It has come out of nowhere," said Michael Clarkson, head of the drug testing practice at Ogletree Deakins, a law firm. "I have heard from lots of clients things like, 'I can't staff the third shift and test for marijuana.'"

Interesting developments, this is a turn from the old administrations, there were raids on dispensaries during the Obama administration no one talks about.

I wish the laws were more lenient here, it can be prescribed for medical use, but good luck with that.

Mellowing out?  chuckle.gif It's not that way where I work, if you are injured on the job it's an automatic piss test, even though something like smoking when not working should never come into play. This is all about the workman's comp insurance and keeping the price low.
It's a nasty joke that stays in your system for weeks after smoking, and I'd rather smoke than drink any day, if I could.  gaah.gif

Most places are like that. It's still a rule of thumb.

In the factories where I've worked, the management would usually say something along the lines of "stoners make the best employees."

Agree, it's only a problem if you're smoking there. Who cares what you do after work.

Engineering companies with gov't contracts are req'd to do it in the States and most do as a prerequisite with or without gov't jobs.
Most don't bother with random tests after pre-employment screening, the ones who do weed out the creative employees you need for planning, putting square pegs in round holes etc.

When do they start Testing People for : Phone Dope ?

If there's a way to screen people for "Phone Brain "

Shouldn't Employers exclude people who are addicted to the New Dope = " Phones " ?

I mean , if we're going to exclude people for Dull Brain Function ,

maybe we should look at " Phone Brain " a little closer .

Wasn't it a High Speed Rail accident caused by the engineer on a Phone that killed
a bunch of folks recently ?

" Phone Laws " ?

~~~~~~~ Next on News at Eleven ~~~~~~~~
The Betty Ford Clinic has just opened a new Wing at the Clinic to help people deal
with " Phone Addiction "
Clinical Scientist Claim it could take ,,, welll ,,, an Addict , the rest of their lives to recover
if ever .
" Phone Addiction " ,,,, has now been certified as a Disease just like Alcoholism by the C.D.C.
You just know , these things are in our future .
Insurance Company will require an app placed in your vehicle to monitor your phone
while driving . your rates will ,,
know what sayin' ? lmao.gif
Weed ?
Phone ?
Pharma Drugs or street Drugs ?
Phone is a Drug ?
what's a Drug ?
Who did ?
What Happen ?
why ?
When ?
Where ?
" There ought to be a LAW !!!! "
Huh ?
again : Gawd looks down at Man : " So , you thought you wanted to Split the Atom eh ? "
Today Gawd Looks down at Man : " So,,,, you thought you wanted Cell Phones eh ? "
Tomorrow Gawd Looks down on Man : " HEY !,,,, where'd Man go , and who set this World on Fire , burning it
to a Crisp ? "
What politics from both sides wants to teach us is that things are never complex. If you have your little package and something doesn't fit into that package, You don't know what to make of it so you want to dismiss it or then you will have to do the work of reconsidering your assumptions. - Michael Malice
Now that cannabis is legal in some places, perhaps someone will develop a test to determine (like alcohol) not if you've ever smoked it, but whether you're actually under the influence.
That would be the holy grail as it's fat soluble and tends to stay in the body for several days to over a month in heavy smokers. A positive is dependent on so many factors with current tests. Body fat, strength of the cannabis consumed, frequency of use, users metabolism all come into play.
This isn't black and white as is with alcohol in the bloodstream for example.
