Jack, probably a Rhodesian ridgeback.o
Dinah, in the background a 65 lb mixed breed, perhaps Labrador retriever and bull dog.

Halo is the shaggy dog, probably an Australian Shepherd. He's my alpha dog and leads us and watches for coyotes.
Jack and Dinah hunt. Jack has the better instincts and long legs to chase hares.

Your Rhodesian
looks like it may be mixed with something else too, missing the classic mane on the back.
But facial markings are accurate for the breed.
Mine ran away happy.
LOL.
It's my favorite "racist" happy lion hunting breed.

This dog is probably a cull. A certain percentage are born without the ridge, and are destroyed or neutered and given away. This one came from an animal shelter. He has big shoulders, crazy hunting instincts, and runs like the wind.

They are quite amusing animals.
They can jump like a deer.
I used to let mine chase the thugs on my street.
The mane raised up on her back made her look very aggressive but she always had a smile and wagging tail.
Used to scare the beejeezus outta the creeps.
Good Times!

Jack doesn't guard, but he's so into hunting. When he's out in the wild, his sense of smell is in overdrive; so much so that he drools. This morning, I saw a little feral cat out there hunting, and I'm pleased that Jack didn't go after it. I have a number of cats, and I constantly have to remind him that "those are MY cats"!

Maybe because mine was female it had a more protective nature and was an excellent guard animal.
Idk.
