My first cruise was at the age of 19 years old. I saved my pennies and went with a girlfriend first to Calgary, Alberta, then a train ride through the Rockies to Vancouver, B.C., then boarded a small cruise ship from the Princess line up through the Alaskan Panhandle to many ports, excurisions; one to Mendenhal Glacier, to our ultimate destination of Juneau. It was a wonderful experience and now I want to share another cruising experience with my hubby, but he has reservations about tour companies putting passenger safety first.

So, for the last three decades I've been trying to convince my hubby to go on a cruise. When I almost had him convinced, this last cruise ship fiasco was the last straw for him.

He has informed me that no way in hell will he ever set foot on a cruise ship, nor any type of touring boat or tour bus. (I already gave up ever going on a hovercraft nighttime swamp tour with him).

You know, I'm beginning to see his point after this cruising nightmare; it just seems to be one problem after another with these cruise ships. I think I'll do some research on Holland America lines, the smaller cruise ships, to see their track record, then, maybe, I'll work on him again. chuckle.gif

Quote:Rob Mowlam told his father the ship's crew had started giving free alcohol to passengers.

"He was concerned about what that was going to lead to when people start drinking too much," Mowlam said.

There's a really nice trip you can take from Vanc Isl to Skagway AK, but it's on a ferry not a cruise ship, through inside passage. It's pretty spectacular but bare bones accomadation, I think around $600. Planning on that next summer. Not for a cruise but because I'm going to the Yukon, be a nice way to get there.

Sounds nice Shadow are you planning on stopping at any ports along the way?

I think there's about 6 ports the ferry stops at. Just looked it up, $1,040 for two people, walk on (no vehicle), 2 bed cabin with a window. That's not bad at all.

So, that must be for 7 days, there and back with food? The Yukon looks like pristine wilderness in photos I see, I wonder if it really is? Will you take lots of pics?

Actually, if hubby and I ever get to B.C., that's the first road trip we're taking...up to the Yukon. Witnessing the Northern Lights with my naked eye is on my bucket list.

Quote:“It’s ridiculous. Carnival has nothing at all in plan in case something like this happens,” Nutt said, even though a similar incident occurred on a Carnival cruise in 2010.

Passengers report that the crew has done a great job and that there is less chaos than on Sunday. Once they reach land, passengers will get a free flight home, a full refund for their trip and most expenses aboard and a credit for another cruise.

I never had the urge to travel on a cruise. Love the Carribean and there is nothing worse than sitting on a restaurant/bar patio and see a cruise ship come in. You have thousands of rude tourists flood the town trying to see as much as they can see in the shortest period of time. Prices increase, the overall laid back atmosphere is destroyed. I generally get in my rented jeep or motorcycle and get as far away as possible. I've had some of my best times getting away from rude tourists and my worst times dealing with them.

There is no off season in Key West any more. Tourons flood that tiny island year round now.
