The stone structure is still standing but there was substantial damage for sure.

What politics from both sides wants to teach us is that things are never complex. If you have your little package and something doesn't fit into that package, You don't know what to make of it so you want to dismiss it or then you will have to do the work of reconsidering your assumptions. - Michael Malice

It was shocking and very sad. It's an architectural masterpiece and it's a great tragedy. They will rebuild.

I wasn't thinking of Nero but all the times in history where libraries and important cultural sites have been burned and destroyed to eradicate knowledge and history.

yes, Octo, I know what you mean
like Taliban destroy big Buddha statues carve in mountain, i remember that, kaboom! gone... like Alexandria they had lots and lots of books for ancient knowledge of the past and now we no can learn again anymore.
In my village we had a very little library like one in one room but on the only main street and we had lots of books who write by ancient people in my very old dialect
when i was little i learn to read in the room and after i read one book, then 2 books, then 3 books and then slowly slowly i read every book, then i read the Funk and Wagnell and then I read the phone book,
then i start read again every book and then i stop because i learn too much, that's why i have lots of too much ancient wisdom
then one day we go in library room and we find empty
very sad
all books gone
during the night thief from other village came and steal all our books because very jealous about how wise we are
they think we go stupid and they go wise if they steal the books
but even now, they still stupid and we still wise.
thank you Octo
i go again exile because you don't like me

On 25 August 1992, Serbian shelling during the Siege of Sarajevo caused the complete destruction of the library; among the losses were about 700 manuscripts and incunabula and a unique collection of Bosnian serial publications, some from the middle of the 19th century Bosnian cultural revival.[4] Before the attack, the library held 1.5 million volumes and over 155,000 rare books and manuscripts.[5] Some citizens and librarians tried to save some books while they were under sniper fire, at least one person died.

It will rise from the ashes as a Phoenix but better and hopefully this time there won't be any more accidents that could cause another fire.

Nero was not the cause of the fire of Rome. He actually tried to contain it as per eye witnesses during that time, so why would a pyromaniac try to do that?
