I've resisted the smartphone bug...but did succumb to a phone with alpha-keys to text the ball & chain.

I got a gander at an iPad earlier in the year and have been thinking about how sexy it was ever since.

It's time to crack my knuckles over a new computer project, but the ones I have a rockin' on Linux just fine and the new models really wouldn't be much of a hardware improvement over what I have, for what I do...so...

I was thinking perhaps a lot of what I do on a computer could be handled just as well on an iPad.

Has the cheese totally slid off my cracker? damned.gif

It can be a PITA to post from an iPad sometimes - images can be tricky if you host them - get one with lots of space, at least 32 GB, as you might fill up fast - your hands may begin to hurt - the mini is the bomb

Oh, and search around about iPad connection problems... not just an isolated event - remember, though apps can do about anything - apple is still proprietary as heck- from time to time you have to work around it...

Get one, and after a couple of hours you will have mastered it and wondered why you waited so long.
Disclosure: I'm retired and never require anything more than an Internet connection to see the nekkid wimmins, I don't need a word processor or excel etc, although the readers are available free of charge.

There's plenty of room for all God's creatures. Right next to the mashed potatoes!

Thanks for that vote of confidence in my sanity, Octo. İmage

And after the weather here for the past week, I'm not so sure that hell doesn't have a slippery patch or two.

I recently got a cheap phablet http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8GB-1GB-3G-Qua...35ddd24fc2
quad core and a gig of DDR3.
It does all I needed cheaply and got a bluetooth headset with the money I saved from not getting an IAnything.
The drawback - some Chinese crapware, I of course rooted it and got rid of it all, modded it with Nova Launcher Prime and it's smokin'.
My AnTuTu Benchmark is around 2,000 - which... for under a hundred € is crazy good.
There are other options aside from apple stuff, and it's Linux based, so I'm pretty happy about the deal.

get it, i only use an ipad.. its way effen cool.. dont buy the ipad cover, its crap and expensive.. i bought a bluetooth keypad too, that i use to type on, its very cute, so it saves the tapping the screen non stop, and makes it more like a mini laptop.. and its a cover, so for an extra ten bucks or so you get a good hard cover as well..

i will google the type of keypad i use.. you may have diff brands in the US to OZ..

The obvious bennie is the savings, not to mention the fun part of powning it. chuckle.gif The 8GB of storage seems a bit on the shy side. Can you shove in a larger amount of storage?

One thing I do like about the iPadAir2 is the 2GB of ram. The dang thing looks just like an iPad Mini. lmao.gif

And yeah, tightwad that I am, the price just irritates the dog snot outta' me ~ but sometimes I allow myself to pig out...it's good for the soul...when you can afford it.

Thanks for the input.

I'm waiting on getting any accessories. I'll give it a fair shot au naturel. I mean, why get the thinnest and lightest in caregory only to clunk it up with a case? As for the keyboard, the good ones become cases, too ~ so it will kill two zombies with one slug if needed.

I've never used a tablet but I'm willing to wait to see what needs fixin'.

One thing I DO want to use it for is to replace the GPS in my car. I have a 7 year old Sony (sexy little thing) and Sony got out of the GPS business and no longer issues updates. (A small feather on the plus side of the scale that makes the decision a tiny bit justifiable.)

yeah man, thats what i meant, the keyboard becomes the case, so you dont need that ipad one that they try and sell you.. you need a cover/case of some sort, as they turn into a stand also.

"Am I considering purchasing an ipad that was reverse engineered from a similar alien device found onboard the crashed roswell saucer? probably! just another worn out toy once used by the powers that be who have since obtained better more advanced technology (that we'll be buying in a decade or two) and so they continue selling off more of their antiquated gadgets (for megabuck$) passed off on us as being brand new electronics sold to an unsuspecting public ever hungry for new things to play with...
