they really do look like they're being carried by the wind don't they.

Quote:Bright lanterns paying tribute to a cancer sufferer are believed to be behind reports of bright lights across the Christchurch sky on Saturday night.

Police were alerted and social media was abuzz with people's sightings of strange groupings of orange lights over Bryndwr around 8pm.

Around 12 bright orange 'wish lanterns' were released from Fendalton during the evening by the family of Danelle Wakefield, who's been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Danelle's sister Leigh says around 50 people gathered for the lantern release.

She says Danelle's just been given a life expectancy of two months to two years, so they let off the wish lanterns to grant wishes.

Leigh Wakefield says she joked at the time that people may think there were aliens in the sky, but thought nothing of it until she heard the news the next day.

I've often thought about making Chinese lanterns and filming them, then comparing what was filmed with a few vids of this nature. Bet it would debunk a lot of these types of sightings.
Don't get me wrong, there are real objects out there, but a lot of these are hoaxed for whatever reason.

I believe those are lanterns as well. They drift at same speed and direction. It also looks like they take off from the ground.
