We made it woohoo.gif The ferry was long, 8 hours and at night so didn't see much but a sunset. We just checked into the cabin, and I'm looking at the ocean frig it's lovely here. Everyone drives slow and waves, everybody, local and tourist both, says hello and smiles. I've seen Japanese, Germans, and an Englishman and we just got here lol. God it's beautiful. Don't know about pics the wifi seems slow, but I haven't really any yet, my group is all napping but me. So layed back here. So incredibly beautiful.

It sounds great, laid back...spiritual. I am looking forward to reading more about this place and your adventures.

It's a very spritual place, the calm is extraordinary. Went to the museum this morning but I've been walking too much on a buggered knee so opted out of the tour the others are doing. The museum is huge, this is about 1/20 of it.

A few war canoes, Loo Taas (wave eater) the most famous one isn't there.

from where we live, i can see an old apt building of mine.

today, they are tearing it down.
they have cranes and some kinda dragon looking thing, which is just grabbing the bricks and yanking them down.
and of course, they started in the one corner exactly where i used to live.

strange to watch.

seeing a huge ragged gap there, is a good representation of how i felt living there though.
too bad we dont have a pic.

Just Plain Nuts.

I can relate to feeling that strange feeling when I went to my childhood neighbourhood and my old house where I spent a great deal of my childhood, was torn down...odd eerie feeling.

Haida mythology:

Quote:This is an original retelling of the story of the first Haida, retold by modern artist Bill Reid.

The image of the spirit being Raven, crouched on the clam shell with the first humans sticking out, speaks powerfully to the level of importance that Raven plays in the imagination of the Haida, even to this day.

I think I see a raven totem in the middle of that totem pole.

Many legends. The one I read was of Copper Woman who was the sole survivor of a boat of princesses that traveled across the ocean. She was very lonely so she blew her nose into a clam shell that grew a boy child she called Snot Boy. I know it sounds funny, but so the legend goes. He grew up selfish and immature but managed to father children. Natives are a very matriarchal culture.

Where do the Haida sleep?

In a Haida-bed lmao.gif

OK...now I envy you for real...
Too cold for mid-May over here today.

Beautiful evening, though.
And farewell to the stars for the season.
Past midnight, still not dark.

Aw, shucks...gotta love ol' Suomi-Finland after all.

Snot Boy! lmao.gif

yes... and this one is a pretty public thing here.
it is a heritage building.. and there is something fishyin the way city hall rushed it through
saying it was so damaged it could just fall over.
yet other engineers thought it could be saved..
well anyhow. doesnt feel right. they wanted the space for something.

it isnt the only building they have done this to.
getting rid of the old downtown altogether here.

so, for me it isnt just eerie but.. sad as well..

as i was talking to AS on the other thread, it is just another part of the society i knew being taken away.
there is hardly anything to this area anymore that i know anymore.

it is a good analogy of it for me..

oh here we go.

check it out i just went an looked here.

see that big red dragon thing..?

i used to live where it's jaws are in that pic.... that was my apt......top floor corner.

Just Plain Nuts.

The world I've got my roots in is quickly disappearing, too.

And that same sort of creepy fishyness is everywhere 13.gif

My town is dying...downtown is a ghost town most of the
time...empty storefronts...where did all the people go..?
Why did the town director suddenly resign, only to
kill himself shortly thereafter?
Dammit, will be only me, the immigrants and tumbleweed
left soon, if the trend continues 13.gif
