Oh Gawd, I have a cankle!!

My left calf has been inflamed for the last couple weeks. Went to the doc. It's cellulitis, which has the potential to be quite serious because it can lead to fluid in the lungs. She said my lungs sounded "cloudy."

Been avoiding Lasix that she prescribed to see if natural diuretics would work. So far no success!

This diagnosis is to be expected because I'm partially disabled due to a broken back and sit on by butt all day. Walking and standing hurt, so I sit.

If the cankle doesn't go down by tomorrow, I'm going to break down and try the Lasix. Sh!t! I hate drugs and never use them.

Slight ankle swelling has been an issue for at least 5 years, probably longer. The doc said if I hadn't been taking herbs during all that time, I'd have gotten pneumonia by now.

But the grim reaper can't be denied forever. It's not nice to fool mother nature - sitting on my butt is against mother nature.

The doc said when patients take Lasix, they pee and pee and pee and lose 7-8 pounds and feel like a new person.

Have you ever taken Lasix?

Pray for me. hug.gif

Without Googling, I don't even know what it is. Gosh, that sounds awful - I hear you on the big pharma reluctance, It's a scary path if you look at statistics.
I do so hope this gets straightened out soon. cheers.gif

Lasix (Furosemide) has been used as a diuretic for over 100 years ~ it's pretty much a standard. The side effects are well known and can be prescribed in combo with a potassium sparing compound.

Thing is, excess fluid, especially heart/lungs is stressful on the ticker.

Something that seems counter-intuitive is that the MORE water you drink, the MORE you will urinate. The LESS water you drink, the more your body will HOARD what it does have. The body is smart and as we are largely just big bags of water with brains and legs to move around, it knows how to prepare for a drought.

However, if you normally drink lots of water, the body adjusts to plenty and does not hoard. That is why most 'diets' encourage drink unreal amounts of water. (Water weight is still weight to lose.) And, btw, WATER is what we need, not coffee, soda, juices or too much beer. chuckle.gif

If natural diuretics didn't help I'd go for the meds too. Not only could it be dangerous like DaJ says, but also cankles... uhoh.gif

Like you, I too push away the medication the doctor prescribes me, but if all else fails, and I have no other choice, I will take the medication.

I am posting the seated exercises video below, just in case you want to experiment with some of them.

Keep well BAG.

Thanks to each of you who has replied. cheers.gif

Your suggestions and reassurances are making a difference. I feel more positive about taking the Lasix.

Unique Stranger, thanks for reminding me about those sorts of exercises. I immediately went through a series of them when seeing your video posting. Exercise is a major key to getting the fluid moving.

I have a real aversion to wearing any tight fitting socks at all, can't have anything tight around my ankles, it seems to sometimes cause swelling, restricting all sorts of things. I like it best barefoot and knitted socks if cold. It's the natural way.
