Strangely enough, I still recall the school trip to a pioneer village and what I remember the most is how they covered their window dressings (fabric curtains) with beeswax to help stave off the cold. I always thought that a smart solution, as well as hanging thick tapestries on walls to keep out the cold.

Ok so here's some pics from the cabin.

In the background is the main cabin, which was a school when my dad was a kid. He was born in that village. The place only got electricity in the 50's. When my mom had my brother in 1959 the women still wore longs skirts and stuff damned.gif

Cabin next to it is my brother's cabin and to the left in the foreground is the sauna.

Mason in the main cabin. My dad made the fireplace like they looked like in the day.

It's "Thousand Islands" with Boldt castle semi-built on one of them - romantic story of a rich business man who started building a castle for his dying wife - who never lived to enjoy it.

Every September -labour day weekend - hubby and I visit Kingston, and we once took the cruise around the islands, but we didn't take the trip that stops at Boldt Castle. This year I want to roam around the castle, so thanks CC for reminding me.

You may be thinking of 'Land O Lakes', with over 5,000 lakes.
