People trapped in huge west London tower block inferno

A 24-story tower block on Latimer Road in west London has been engulfed in a horrifying blaze, with reports saying people have been trapped in flats in the upper stories.
The massive fire has engulfed the Grenfell Tower in North Kensington from the 2nd story to the top floor, the London Fire Brigade has tweeted. It added that at least 40 fire engines and 200 firefighters have been battling the blaze.

Local officials believe that several hundred people were in the building at the time. The high-rise had a "stay put" policy in the event of a fire — with residents urged to shut their windows and doors and await rescue.

That stay put policy wasn't such a great idea. These high rise buildings need some type of outside ladder escape.

It's been burning for hours, how come it hasn't collapsed in a free fall as fast as gravity and melted the cars blocks away?

Not like this Old Turd Building built of Wood Studs , Wood Floors , wood Trusses , wooden stairwells ,

More than 600 residents desperately tried to escape the flames as the fire broke out in the middle of the night.

Survivors claimed there was no working fire alarm, sprinklers failed and the only staircase out was blocked.

Dozens are missing in the wake of the fire, with residents saying that 'nobody on the top three floors have survived'.

Twenty people are fighting for their lives in a critical condition with 78 people taken to six different hospitals across London.
