Isn't that the point of art though? To provoke a reaction?

Yes, but there has to be some expectation of which of the five senses a reaction may come from (or a sixth?). Maybe the point of that one was to hit more than one of the five senses...perhaps a discovery of self through a gambit of thoughts and emotions, if one is curious enough to explore themselves.

A meaningless mess...

That's an interesting opinion, would you care to define what you think is pretentious about it?

This, to me, could be looked at as pretentious art, only that both canvas are blank (meaningless)...is this suppose to evoke the thought that it is pretentious? If so, then it has evoked a thought/response.

İmage

Off the top of my head Christo springs to mind. That's pretentious "art".

I like art to be funny, smart and personal. The first video was funny, it kinda describes my thoughts on it. chuckle.gif

I want art to be something I like to look at. When I open my eyes in the morning, I don't want to see cripples or confusion. I'll look at art like the OP and maybe think about it but I won't take it home and hang it on my wall.

That was good! Ego can be constructive, where all along I've thought ego to be pretentious. Something I don't want. But used in a positive way rather than obstructive, it's a tool not a handicap. Thanks US! And now I understand why you say you don't want to lose that part of you.

Life is like a penny, you can spend it on what you like, but you can ONLY spend it once.

Yup, I was always confused as to why everyone was jumping on the 'ego is bad' bandwagon.

Art by the Pen , spoken in your face out loud , seems where I am stuck for a while now.

Watxched this Documentary on the web last night .

Zinn's book : America as the people lived it
or something to that , was mentioned

I searched his book and read a bit of it

Here is a Professor writing in thoughts , that almost exactly matched my own .

THAT ,,,, was a Trip .

The spoken word as the Art of the Raconteur , can have all the elements
of life and it's awesome when the Teller has the personality traits
that keep your muse awake and vibrating .

To activate a persons imagination , inducing for them little movies in their minds .

THAT , is awesome Art .

Pictures momentarily held by the audience in their minds,, transitioning
into full length movies as the story unfolds .

with the Visual arts , a picture is shared on Canvas , with the verbal art ,
The pictures are self painted by the listeners .

The Best song lyrics are those that tell a story , that the listener can relate to ,
and see in the minds eye the play with themselves as one of the actors in the play .

Yes I can find abstract art pleasing to the eye as well, it doesn't have to be complicated.
