They are not toxic to humans and pets as per a university study.

"Poinsettias will never be recognized as edible plants, but nor are they the toxic nemeses many pet owners make them out to be. The natural latex present in poinsettia sap may cause irritation to a pet’s mouth, but consumption of the leaves won’t cause anything more than a mild tummyache. In fact, a research study at Ohio State University found no evidence that any part of the poinsettia plant is toxic to humans or animals."

I just bought a beautiful 'Jingle Bells' mottled variety. I am liking it.

I must have the Crickey Maha spirit because I have been decorating inside my home, now I want to decorate outside too. I also bought shortbread cookies in the shape of Scottish Terriers and almond toffee chocolates and walnuts. blink.gif It's only November!

I see you're hit by Christmas spirit. Poinsettias are so all over the place here as well during Christmas, they're known as Yule Stars (julstjärna/joulutähti)

Be careful what you offer, you may get it. No, I will keep the decorating relatively low key...famous last words.

That's what I assumed...so thanks but no thanks. Simple and easy peasy for me is the way I want to go with the outdoor decor, just in case the thieves get any ideas.

I think a simple handmade outdoor planter similar to the second pic in the vid below will do the trick.

That's beautiful! The one with the branches and ornaments at the bottom of a birch tree? What a great idea! 13.gif I may have to do some outdoor decorating of my own that doesn't include lights flashing to the beat of loud Christmas carols. stoned.gif

Very interesting. I had always heard they were toxic. Believe it or not, in Indiana, I saw a guy plant one they had kept alive over the winter...
It turned into a large bush.
