At just about 300 million years old, horseshoe crabs are about 200 million years older than the dinosaurs. This almost mythical animal has survived mass extinction events that wiped out zillions of other creatures. The females can lay 90,000 eggs, which feed countless species of shorebirds and bolster whole ecosystems. Only 10 of those eggs survive.

And, if you live in the U.S., the brilliantly blue blood of these animals has been used to test every vaccine you've ever had.

Half a million horseshoe crabs are caught and bled each year in laboratories linked to pharmaceutical companies. The animals are strapped in while their blood is extracted for 24 to 72 hours. Bottles fill up with their blood, a stunning shade of blue, which will be used to test vaccines for harmful bacteria.

The images kill me. I hate humans.

I used to see them all the time in FL. They are quite alien looking. Mans inhumanity to man and animals knows no boundaries.
No wonder the aliens won't have anything to do with us. chuckle.gif

I used to play with them as a child. The water down by the bridge. Now that water is filthy and they are long gone

Just a matter of time until we are gone as well, unless we get some real leadership not tied to corporate interests and start addressing real problems as opposed to non-existent global warming and non-existent home grown terrorists.
Our glorious leaders have created a shithole based on padding their wallets with worthless fiat currency.
I so hope there really is a hell.

There's an awful lot of self-loathing human beings in the comment thread of that article.
What miserable people...

Too generalized. Asia is huge. They do not eat them in every Asian country. They probably have less meat on them than crabs do too
