A possible deal between the Vatican and China's government has been rumored for months; the critical issue to be resolved is the highly controversial matter of allowing China's government a say in selecting bishops.

Add to that the pope’s finance chief, hired PricewaterhouseCoopers to undertake a comprehensive audit of the Vatican’s finances.

On a mandate from Pope Francis to clarify the city-state’s muddled accounts, the newly powerful cardinal had been assessing and tweaking the system; already he had found a total of €1.4 billion “tucked away” off the books.

blink.gif That's a pretty good chunk of change.

It shows the Pope is digging deep to clean up the mess at the Vatican. After all, if they don't take on a more merciful stance in these times, they will have to kick a large percentage of people out of the church, so the cardinals need to be dragged into the reality of today.

No need to be insulting because I happen to disagree with you and I know plenty - as in 'mercy and peace'.

Everyone has the right to free speech and an opinion (Theology is not fact, it is the study of religious belief - open to interpretation) and you can never please everyone. These are crazy times and nobody is an expert on anything, we are all fumbling around in the dark.

Actually, I am not very touchy, just calling you out on being insulting.

You must define your kind of justice and how it conflicts with the mercy of God.

More like having some admirable traits as was written of Jesus, in particular, not being a mindless leader.

Does the Catechism replace other catechetical documents of the Church?
No. The Catechism stands beside the other catechetical documents such as, Catechesi Tradendae, Evangelii Nuntiandi, General Directory for Catechesis and the catechetical documents of episcopal conferences. These documents create part of the context in which the Catechism is received and mediated to the particular circumstances of the local or national Church. The Catechism is intended to be a resource for the continuing renewal of catechesis and the development of future catechetical materials.

Is the Catechism simply a list of doctrinal formulations?
No. The Catechism presents the history and tradition of the Church's doctrine in a complete yet summary way. It draws heavily from Scripture, the Church Fathers, liturgical texts and the lives and writings of the saints to illustrate the doctrinal content.
