One HOUR for an ambulance?
I've been wishing lately that I could emigrate somewhere. :(

Yes, I thought the scooter would be quicker, but wasn't sure you'd feel well enough to use it, and also if you arrive by ambulance, there's a better chance of not having to sit in A&E for hours.

I hope that oncologist has diagnosed what's causing the leg thing, and not, "We don't know. Could be shingles?"!

Fortunately I can arrive without an ambulance and I will be treated the same as if I had. That's due to a special fast tracking card for A&E. it gives me priority. So far it has worked fine and I have never waited more than 10 minutes.

They are sticking with that shingles diagnosis I am told. So they will now treat me according to that, They have given me 1 new tablet 'Aciclovir' 800 mg. These tablets are huge and very difficult to swallow! I have to take 1 five times a day for the next 5 days. Oh well if they work then it will all be worth it.

Life is like a penny, you can spend it on what you like, but you can ONLY spend it once.

You can ask for those in smaller doses...you would just have to take more of them. I'm not certain if it comes in a liquid though. Probably wouldn't taste good. I hope they do something for the swelling because I don't think that is related to the shingles...

Praying my friend!

Update:

I have just come back from the hospital.

Like posted above the doctors are sticking to the idea of the leg and foot problem being shingles. So are now treating for that.

The blood counts.

Platelets 289,000. Very good and been stable now for the last few weeks.

Sodium level 120. Still a problem there and it does not seem to change for the better no matter what I do. This is obviously concerning as it is the sodium level that has the most influence in how I am going to be feeling that day and depending on how low is the sodium level also how low and confused I will feel.

Life is like a penny, you can spend it on what you like, but you can ONLY spend it once.

Did you happen to ask about vasculitis?

I am praying for you and I hope you will only get better.

I thought you might like to read how to make your own electrolyte drinks to replenish your sodium levels. I didn't know coconut water has 2X the sodium as gatorade.

Sending continues well wishes and positive thoughts to you across the North Sea Nigel. Let's go from the fact that their diagnosis is right. So you don't have to think about it being something else. Shingels will heal. Time depending on your general health of course, but it will heal Nigel. Go from there and make it one of your less worries, even though that pain won't be very helpful with that. But you have to think along that way.

Sodium level is the real deal. I have no clue about medical stuff like that, but that is the thing to concentrate on. You came a long way, your platelet count is fantastic, so that must mean you are stable from that perspective. It makes a solid bottom for the future. I am always analysing and from that point of view I would say you have a base and knowledge from two things:

- Shingles, will heal.
- Platelet counts awesome and stable.

So focus on Sodium level. In whatever way possible. The rest is (relatively spoken) under control.

Take care of you mate. Best from Holland.

^^ What he said! :)

At least the good thing is, once shingles is gone, you don't get it again:

This bit here is very very good, and incidentally you can order these remedies online rather than finding out Boots doesn't have them. These kind of remedies work; I used to treat my daughter with them in childhood illnesses, their efficacy was stunning.

You have my sympathy. Someone online wrote of shingles:

'I am writing nearly two weeks for my doctors appointment. The doctor I saw at the hospital had more sympathy, I said its so painful he said it is I have had it , no pain killer kills the pain it is so severe. He gave me tramadol that worked better.
I am depressed and in pain can hardly move it is on right side of chest going round to my back, it is like some one has stuck a hot iron on me then is stabbing the sore with sewing needles, then plunged a spear into it. I feel wounded.'

This damn leg and foot! Every now and again and without any warning comes on the most excruciating pain. Here is an example of what I am saying. Today I had to go to the local council offices and sort out my blue badge. So before leaving home I checked I had everything I would need.

On arrival at the council offices I was told I would have to wait to be seen. This I had no problem with especially as it had now started raining outside.

Whilst waiting patiently the pain decided to come on in full force. Suddenly there I was completely out of control. I was very soon in so much agony I was screaming with the unbearable burning sensation. It was like my leg had been put into an open fire! This must have lasted all of about 20 minutes. The staff were very concerned and asking what they could do. I did tell them there was nothing they could do. These bouts of severe pain out of the blue are becoming very regular all of a sudden. They wake me up screaming in the night!

I have had shingles and what you are describing is very similar to what I experienced, but mine was m arms!

Sorry you are going through this and I hope it heals.

Lysine helped me revive the pain during an outbreak as well as reduce the severity of future outbreaks.
