Shingles can spread. Having said that this does look to me like shingles with the newest pictures put up. Keep in mind every patient is different and outbreaks will vary in severity. Nigel I have been following you and praying that things get better for you. I spoke with you before on the other board concerning some holistic additions to your nebulizer to ease your shortness of breathe as an AC and it took me some time to find you again.

You have noted in your postings the pain that this is causing you. That sharp stabbing almost breathtaking agony and with as big an area as this is I have no doubt the severity with which you are suffering. IMHO having had chicken pox earlier in life and then receiving the dose of chemotherapy and weakening your immune system the virus became a problem. Only 4% of cases will affect the feet and even then usually only on a single side. That is why I point my finger right at the chemotherapy having reduced your immunity enough this popped up I hope that the doctors have advised you when you are out to keep it covered as much as possible just as this could be spreading to your other leg you also can infect others who could come in contact if they have not had or been inoculated for it. First and foremost though is yourself and keeping you healthy. There is no way to know how much of a hit your immune system took with the dose of chemotherapy but I have seen this far too often and is why so many are reverse isolated in the hospitals to protect individuals receiving it.

IIRC you had mentioned in the time period directly preceding and right after that they had mentioned that your kidney function was reduced. Do you know if that is still the case? It would and can directly contribute to some of the swelling you are seeing in your feet along with swelling from the shingles itself. It will also determine how well your sodium levels can be maintained. Sodium itself is tricky to adjust it has to be done slowly and methodically because as you can tell the damage it does when it gets to low to high a level can also be devastating especially to your cardiovascular system. It is often overlooked in the medical journals as other electrolytes are usually spotlighted when it comes to your heart but sodium does play a key role in it.

Having said that I am glad you are on the anti-viral. I think the hesitation the medical community had in prescribing it to you many days after your first complaints of symptoms was an utter and complete disservice to you. Those medications work best within the first 72 hours.

Holistically there are many things that you can do. That is my goal here with such a lengthy post. I want YOU to have the power to do something. I want you confident and able to know that you are actively fighting against this and put whatever power I can back right where it belongs- In your hands.

Not sure if there is a posting limit here so I will cut this off here and make a separate post for some holistic things for you.

I will list for you to look over and make your own informed decision about:

Lysine-My #1 recommendation. General doses are 1000mg and can be taken for extended periods of time with no issues. With a shingles outbreak my recommendation is 2000mg. The dose of 1000 works very well with outbreaks of herpes to reduce the duration and pain. Shingles outbreak is much worse and requires more to make a difference. If you decide to dose this high titer it up and watch as your body adjusts to it. This is temporary dosing and not for long term. But you will not need it long term anyway. If you do not wish to take it all in pill form you can supplement in your diet as well but it is very hard to achieve those levels without a pill to help you out especially if your appetite is suffering.

Tamanu and tea tree oil- Mixed equal parts and applied to lesions to assist in drying and to help with pain. This will BURN. You may hate me its okay lol. I have evidenced a case of this applied liberally with gritted teeth and lesion healing that went from blister to dried almost healed in a week. Apple cider vinager also works well.

Garlic oil on a q-tip can aide in bursting the blisters. Rub until you see pink.
The goal is the faster these things burst dry up and go away the quicker you will heal. To note as well why the tea tree oil and garlic. Both have antiviral antibacterial properties and is better to burst when applying those items then to let them burst on there own and potentially spread and infect other areas of your body.

Vitamin C- Shingles is actually a very good thing to use intravenous vitamin c therapy on. If you could find someone to help you with this or best case a holistic specialist that will do it for you that would be a huge help to you not only with this. 4000-6000 mg split between two injections daily is fairly standard. If not available lyposomal vit c is the best and reduces the uncomfortable side effects. 1000-5000mg for standard dosing. You may be able to go higher but from my studies the absorption rate is different then injection.

Colloidal silver- taken orally or combined oregano oil or olive leaf extract and rubbed on. Did I read that someone sent you some olive leaves that you are using for tea? If so you could make a tea drop in some silver and place that upon your wounds. They actually make bandages here in the states infused with silver for wound treatment but you must a prescription to get them. I is very bad how what the holistic community has relied upon and know works for so long takes years before main stream medicine catches on.

BHT- chemical compound widely available as a food preservative. Its function here is tricky and while it does help some with symptoms what it does is more not seen with the naked eye. This is what binds with the virus inside your nerve cells where it is hidden as it assists more with containing and keeping the virus from spreading. 250-500mg standard dosage taken with a fat like coconut oil on an emptier stomach towards bedtime.

There are other options but this is a start to me and with what all else you are juggling supplement wise I am sure it is alot. These are imho the powerhouses though and should afford you alot of help.

In conclusion to the small book I have now wrote. If you are still with me thank you for sticking with it. I am so glad I have found you again I was worried when I saw the threads deleted and upset about it. I used to have an account there and when the ads and stuff changed and I saw google analytics in them and the revealing pictures in some of the ads that, on the night I deleted they were cutting in and still showing up when I was logged in, I left. I do not agree with how it all has been done. I do not agree with how you have been treated at all. So I put my money where my mouth was and left. I had run under the radar for awhile and popped up that night on your thread and that was the last post I ever made there. So if I had to say how they treated you was for me the last straw. My thoughts and prayers have been with you all along and I wish for you only always the best of everything that life has to offer.

Good morning . The latest update for you. All those difficulties I had with platelets gone, with sodium levels gone. Now the new one. Oxygen level is very low. Should be about 95but mine is only 74!
So looks like I will be on this for a while.

Damn if it's not one thing it's another! How the hell am I supposed to maintain myself in some form of sanity I wish I knew.

The oxygen level really is another vital part in our bodies ability to function. Only has the be down by 1 and is enough to cause shortness of breath . Down by only a few can leave someone gasping for air.

Life is like a penny, you can spend it on what you like, but you can ONLY spend it once.

I thought the sodium and platelet counts would stabilize at some point due to your strict diet.

Shingles should go away eventually. So much useless pain and suffering but if it is shingles it will go away. Anonymous Kritter seems to have good answers with the tea tree oil and his other advice.

Now the oxygen... Have the doctors said how the oxygen level can be increased and have it stabilized? There must be some equipment they can lend you for this something like the oxygen masks/supply they have on airplanes when they lose altitude/pressure.

I wish you could get it all back to normal (or at least near normal).

They are going to install a portable oxygen machine in my room.
Also they would install a bottle on my scooter.

More bad news about the oxygen level. I have just been informed that my left lung has partially collapsed! That is why I have the problem with oxygen level and why i am having difficulty breathing.

There is no solution to this. Can only hope that with time it will be ok again. I somehow don't believe that.

So I guess things are not looking to good on my side at the moment.

Prayers and or good vibes are requested at this very difficult time for me please.

Many people live with only one lung.

Pope Francis is one of them. He had it removed a long time. He is very energetic nevertheless and carrying a very busy schedule with extensive world travel. He just got back from Azerbaijan and some other nearby country I think Georgia.

It is good that they have provided you with oxygen equipment.

Why Pope Francis Only Has One Lung
According to the Associated Press, the new Pope had one of his organs removed as a teenager, presumably after a bout with an infection. At that time, it’s possible that antibiotic treatments that are commonly used today to treat such infections were not as available, and to protect patients from further health problems doctors removed the lung as way to stop the infection from spreading.
...
Fortunately, the lungs are a redundant system, and losing one lung doesn’t seriously compromise health. The only concern Pope Francis faced, and will continue to face, is that he has less respiratory reserve than someone with two intact lungs. That means he may be at slightly higher risk of complications from influenza or more vulnerable to succumbing to pneumonia. But, says Belperio, the fact that the 76-year old has lived a relatively healthy life so far demonstrates that his surgery did little to hamper his ability to live a full and active life.

That made for some interesting reading. I will be asking the Macmillan nurse about that tomorrow when she comes to see me.

Hey Nigel. I understand that meanwhile you are getting desperate about this one thing after the other. Very logical. Good things are that the sodium level and platelets are good again. Those are the crucial things. Of course it is horrible that you now get this collapsed lung, must be a weak spot causing it? Your body had to endure so much the past months, so that sounds logical.

Good thing in all this mentally not very uplifting news is that you do recover from it. There is treatment for it. Go from there and try to concentrate on the good things mate. Not easy, not at all. But they can fix that collapsed lung. There is enough on the net about it, here's one link:

Sending all positive vibes and thoughts across the North Sea. Even though I agree it is about time Mr. Murphy gets packing, try and keep your spirits up by thinking about the good news about sodium and platelets.

Stay safe Nigel, it's going to be ok. Best, Eric (InterMezzo)

Everything is far from ok my friend but I am somehow managing..

I am still getting the severe burning pains in my leg and foot on regular occasions that leave me screaming out in pain. This is a pain I have never known to be so painful. I would not wish pain like this on anyone.

Anyway I sleep currently in 2 hourly increments which is not really doing me any good. I can not sleep in bed only in a chair at the moment, my appetite is hindered by the fungus infection (flush) that is covering my tongue and roof of my mouth. I feel to eat but everything I eat or drink tastes of a disgusting kind of chemical, metallic taste that stops me.

Today I will have a visit from the Oncologist, palliative care team, Macmillan nurse, and social worker all together. The idea is that as I am so ill currently to find a care plan that works best for me both in the short term and long term. Basically the support they promised me from home has up to now not really worked.
We will see what they come up with.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Hey Nigel.. Bicarb soda in a glass of water for the thrush in the mouth, swish it around in your mouth then swallow it. 3 times a day? I've had major problems with internal fungus, so has JayR, he healed it with bicarb soda.. Stay away from high sugar foods, it will just feed it.

Sorry about your pain you are feeling.

Peace to you.. Xx

Also dip your toothbrush in the bicarb soda and gently brush your tongue with it and mouth where it is, that will remove it instantly. You want to drink it three times a day, like half a teaspoon in a glass of water, cause if your mouth is like that, your gut would be too.. It's quick acting..
