Quote:Even though it's over 30 years since the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, radiation levels exceeding 39 706 Bq (becquerel) per kilo have been found in Swedish wild boar meat taken from the Uppland area.

According to the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, this is the highest ever level measured in wild boar meat in Sweden, way exceeding the 1500 Bq/kg safe limit set by the Swedish Food Agency for meat consumption.

Sweden still radioactive? What about Finland?

They eat huge quantities of mushrooms, that's why they are radioactive.
Though I have no data because I'm too lazy to search, I'd lay money on the wild hogs in Finland being glow in the dark.

Unfortunately the fallout came right over here. The radiation levels back then in berries and fish was about as high as the present day Swedish wild boar. I haven't seen any levels in boar around here in many years, but I suspect they're still high for the reasons JR mentioned.

Quote:Radioactivity testing of reindeer meat began after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in 1986. Testing has continued until this day. Most of the cesium-137 found in the Finnish reindeer rearing area has its origins in the nuclear weapon tests performed in the atmosphere in the 1950s and 1960s. In addition, the Chernobyl fallout brought some radioactive substances to the reindeer rearing area.
