At 64 miles (103 km), it would not only be the longest tunnel in the world, it would more than double the currently longest British Channel Tunnel. It would span the Bering Straight and connect Russia to Alaska. Details are sketchy, but consensus indicates the tunnel would have a highway, high-speed rail tracks, a fiber optic network and pipelines for gas and oil. The total cost for the tunnel is projected at $65 billion USD.

Phenomenal, this if undertaken would be one of the greatest engineering marvels ever. The world just got a little smaller.

It will be interesting to see, but there are plenty of quakes in that area, could be a disaster movie waiting to happen. damned.gif On the upside it's still safer than nuclear power.

Well who the ğck would use it?

No one wants to visit Russia and Russians can't afford to visit Alaska.

And why aren't people screaming about this like they are the Mexican super highway?

I am not your carpet ride I am the sky
I am not your blowing wind, I am the lightning
I am not your autumn moon, I am the night

Most likely chuckle.gif However there are entire towns here on the eastern border that live on Russian tourism and Alaska is at the other end of Russia so I think it could work hmm.gif

Most of the Russian population lives in the western part of the country.
