The Milwaukee Common Council is expected to take up the issue within a week as to a proposed ordinance on whether any new elementary school approved in Milwaukee should include outdoor play space.

Quote:Lord Coe, the chairman of the London organising committee and a former double Olympic gold medallist, was speaking in the wake of a row about the Government cutting funding for school sport and scrapping a target of two hours of school sport a week for children. David Cameron was criticised earlier in the day for claiming that many schools were focused on “Indian dance” rather than competitive sport.

Lord Coe said: “It is very, very important that we do everything we can to maintain high quality physical education in schools, and in primary schools it is particularly important because it is my instinct that if you haven’t got that pattern and love of sport and pattern of exercise by year 10 or 11, it is going to be quite hard to introduce that to 14- and 15-year-olds with the cluttered landscape that you are then competing against.

Seems like their concern over the 'child obesity epidemic' isn't so sincere after all... Surprise surprise coffeetime.gif

Just playing the Devil's advocate here. Why is it the school's responsibility?

Well since they take it as their responsibility to indoctrinate our children they should know it would be of great benefit if the kids could run around and play between lessons.

I would like to see study/work stations where we have the option of sitting or standing. I've also seen workstations where a treadmill was placed, so you can work/study while exercising.

We need to think outside the box more.

True that. I had some ideas about that years ago that caused a friend of mine, who was the principal of a small school here in town at the time, if I was interested in starting a school with her. chuckle.gif

Then it's people like you and her with the bright advanced ideas that should take the reins.
