Scientists have created a life-threatening virus that closely resembles the 1918 Spanish flu strain that killed an estimated 50m people in an experiment labelled as "crazy" by opponents.

US researchers said the experiments were crucial for understanding the public health risk posed by viruses currently circulating in wild birds, but critics condemned the studies as dangerous and called on funders to stop the work.

Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison used a technique called reverse genetics to build the virus from fragments of wild bird flu strains. They then mutated the virus to make it airborne to spread more easily from one animal to another.

These (government funded) scientists dont have anything better to do?!

F###ing around with nature and accidently (or intentionally) wiping out half the human race?!

Makes me wonder who the hell they're really working for like as in satan in other words meaning evil aliens?!

Quote:"We are seeking stronger immunity, both in terms of the way we deliver vaccine, and in the nature of the vaccine itself. This is important work because the current flu shot just isn’t as effective as it should be.”

Paul Radspinner

From this virus gene tinkering, this company is developing a live virus vaccine to combat virus of this type via stopping its reproduction in its tracks.

Maybe soon these government funded professional lunatic scientists will be rewarded with legally extorted tax payer money for playing Dr. Frankenstein exhuming Bubonic Plague victims and re-animating the Black Death from them like what the f##k?!

While I do understand why they would create these new viruses from a scientific standpoint, it's frightening that we have so little faith in the establishment that we expect the worst to happen.

I suspect they have developed worse things in their labs. MUCH worse. damned.gif

I would like to think that we are at a point with computers that they could just create these things as virtual models and work from that.
(I also keep forgetting that I am a time travelling douche bag with unreasonable expectations on current technologies.)

I also blame the movie industry.
All those movies that we watch with the worst scenario possible outcomes with science and tech... and relationships.

This was predictable when they dug up the frozen corpse in the Arctic that died from the Spanish Flu.

Yeah, they might have thrown in a few bird virii ~ but it damn well figgers, none the less.

The only good point is that most likely most of us are descended from folks who SURVIVED that flu strain and we might not be as vulnerable as they predict. We could hope.

My only question is why can't they work on a fix for some that are equally deadly like Ebola, Hanta, MERS. HIV, Rotavirus, Measles, Hepatitus B&C, and perhaps the common cold??

Chernobyl comes to mind and the too many numerous other extremely deadly dangerous nuclear power plant disasters waiting to inevitably happen insanely built spread all across the globe with cons that far out weigh their pros but hey who cares who gives a damn as long as an elite few make megabucks from their atomic existence all around us...

It probably wouldnt take very much for one or more of these mad scientists to accidentally spread some of these all consuming deathly evil manufactured diseases as in walking across the floor and dropping a vial full of nefarious contagion that breaks open shattered upon the floor and then microscopically floats up into the ventilation shafts and blows out into society and there and then hell is unleashed upon us...

Or hey like one of these mad scientists could just lose it flip out snap and dump some unstoppably deadly disease into our public water supply and all hell is insidiously dispersed and unleashed upon us once again...
