Never say never.

These are questions better asked of Whaler. He would know where I can only make assumptions.

Mount Polley mine: Ex-engineers warned tailings pond 'getting large'

Knight Piésold informed mine owners in a February 2011 letter it would not continue as the engineers of the tailings pond system, but its statement gave no reason why it made that decision.

In the letter, it noted, "The embankments and the overall tailings impoundment are getting large and it is extremely important that they be monitored, constructed and operated properly to prevent problems in the future."

Quote:B.C. Energy and Mines Minister Bill Bennett says he is devoting every appropriate resource to deal with the consequences of Monday's spill.

"This is a serious incident that should not have happened," he said in a written statement. "We will determine the cause of the event and we are determined to prevent an incident like this from happening again."

Well, if the gov't there can finally take charge here and IF they can be the watchdog needed, then maybe I will unscratch B.C. back onto my list.

Just waiting to read chemicals measurements in the drinking water and salmon.

Oh noes.

Hope the Canadians better at telling the bloody criminals off.

Over here, the Talvivaara rabbit hole seems to go deep, indeed.

Quote:The Government of Finland owns 8.89% of Talvivaara, and additionally, the pension funds Ilmarinen, Varma and Keva (the public sector pension fund) own stock. The Minister of Economic Affairs is responsible for management of the stock. The previous minister, Jyri Häkämies (NCP), resigned in 2012 and was appointed as the new CEO of Confederation of Finnish Industries.[9] The government supported the mine project by building 60 million euros worth of infrastructure.[10]

In the Talvivaara startup were present three ministers of Centre Party of Finland Minister of Environment Paula Lehtomäki 2007-2011, Minister of Trade and Industry Mauri Pekkarinen and Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen.[11] The family of Paula Lehtomäki (mother, husband and two underaged children) acquired Talvivaara stock a few weeks before the announcement of uranium production plans. Minister Lehtomäki's husband owned €270,000 worth of Talvivaara stock.[12] The director of the Kainuu environmental office was appointed by Minister Lehtomäki in 2007.[11]

Hi AS, if we can believe this news, then the company is failing and may shut down of it's own accord.

Quote:Steady production performance in the second quarter together with the positive development in nickel price and the up to EUR 20 million loan facility being drawn down from Nyrstar have provided Talvivaara with sufficient liquidity to continue the corporate reorganisation and its operations in the short term. However, the Company`s liquidity situation remains critical and to secure the Group`s long term viability, Talvivaara continues exploring the options for a sustainable financial solution for the Group.

Thx for the link, U S.

Maybe official ownership will change,
before the Sotkamo uranium project
gets underway.

And are those leaks really under control now? 13.gif

Young women are beautiful anywhere in the world, but even though I am not young any more, I could see myself sunning myself on a deck, listening to elvis tunes and gazing mezmerizingly upon nature - even though I would probably be poisoned by my well water from mining and oil activities.

If I had to decide upon only one this would be my favorite Elvis Presley song (*-*)

The last time I was chilling in 1/2 nature and 1/2 hot tub, listening to Elvis tunes, the satellite station played only his gospel tunes...it was wonderful because there were tunes I had never heard before. cheers.gif

While still alive Elvis Presley recorded and released three studio gospel albums...

A very unique and very good looking musically talented genius we'll never see and hear again...

Strangely he had a twin brother Jesse who died at birth like wow things that make you go hmmmmmmm?!

Quote:Business owners say reservations have dropped drastically in the wake of the tailings pond breach. And many of the miners who stay in local hotels and eat in local pubs have disappeared.

"As far as we’re concerned, it’s a disaster that nobody’s doing anything about," says Gary Zorn, owner of Ecotours-BC.
