"As far as we’re concerned, it’s a disaster that nobody’s doing anything about," says Gary Zorn, owner of Ecotours-BC.

Well... likely has one hotel (12 rooms and cafe), one general store/gas bar/liquor store, one pub in a condemned building and one cafe/laundromat/post office. I can see tourism droping drastically but the media and mine related investigators have completely over run the town. Locals have all gone into hiding.

Anyways, seems the wife of the general foreman (the one responsible for the tailings pond) has been awarded the contract for the clean-up. Things that make you go hmmm...

eta, and there is at least one resort on the lake. Last time I was out there, maybe two years ago, the school had 5 students.

It might. It was nearly a ghost town before the mine re-opened. But BC has many ghost towns already.

Old gold mining towns yes, the ones rebuilt for tourists (Barkerville for ie), but a completely abandoned town no. Lots of old homesteads here that you come across. In fact there's a small one right across the road from me.

Cool, but I hope that small town is compensated somehow, so they can continue their businesses and chosen lifestyles.
