I sometimes enjoy watching dog shows and going to cat shows. For you dog lovers here is what the seven new breeds look like.

I was interested in the truffle-sniffing breed because I once had a dream of starting a truffle farm. It seems many breeds can be trained to locate truffles.

Pretty cool with a truffle sniffer. You can teach a dog to sniff out anything I reckon. I'd like to have Mason sniff out chanterelles drool.gif

I enjoy the taste all types of mushrooms.

I wonder if the poisonous look-alike species has a different scent...it must have.

But Cirneco dell'Etna , what big ears you have.

All the better to hear rabbits.

This breed evolved in Sicily mainly to hunt rabbits and is considered a more primitive breed.

I don't know of any look-alike chanterelles around here. They're quite characteristic and so incredibly good. Goes so well with the Nordic cuisine.

We have a few spots we know where they grow and we tell no one about it.

Lol, nobody does around here. My cousin's wife told me what environment to look for and based on that we found some. yay.gif

She said, look for a hillside or slope where birches mingle with conifers (a soil PH hint there).

Yes, the tree species plays an important role in finding truffles too...pine and oak, I believe, but don't quote me.

No don't worry about it, truffles don't grow this far north anyway.

A very rare breed today is the Berger Picard (Picardy Sheepdog)...which looks like a mixed breed, but is not.

What latitude are you at because they are now growing them in Sweden...newly introduced, I would imagine?
