Probably ye olde Norse as so many other English words. Knife is Kniv in Swedish but was spelled knif in older times.
I'll bet that even the ye old norse pronounced knife without a "ka" k however they spelled it (*-*)

It's pronounced as 'kneev' and I think that's close to how it was pronounce back then as well. At least around here.

It could be just the way the English language is. a:nife" has to do with the Earths core so they had to spell knife with a K. and the "no" sound is already taken so "know" is spellet with a K.

The Kings English was created by drunken fools trying to confuse the rest of the World. chuckle.gif

No tokes..."erb"...one toke..."herb"...two tokes..."hherb"...three tokes..."hhherb"...four tokes..."hhhherb"...five tokes..."hhhhherb"...six tokes..."hhhhhherbie hancock"...(*-*)

Its def an accent thing. Edge is a pronounced d. It would be like saying hard is a silent d. People like the crocodile hunter guy would not pronounce the d because they don't speak properly. Rough as guts. chuckle.gif

Let's not forget the silent "k" in "fekk" and "fekking."

No one says "fek-k."

Pray for me. hug.gif
