Social Security Recipients Will Get Less than a $4 Increase next Year

Millions of Social Security recipients and federal retirees will get a 0.3% increase in monthly benefits next year, the fifth year in a row that older Americans will have to settle for historically low raises.

There was no increase this year. Next year’s benefit hike will be small because inflation is low, driven in part by lower fuel prices.

The federal government announced the cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, Tuesday morning. By law, the COLA is based on a government measure of consumer prices.

The COLA affects more than 70 million people—about 1 in 5 Americans.

Think $4 is bad? The hospital where my wife and I work recently gave yearly raises. The raises were 3%. That means that the vast majority were under a dollar and most were .20-.30 cents. Over the year it adds up to more, but these are people that are still working and a large portion of whom will never get SSI. I pay more in SSI tax than any other. I have been paying it since I was about 10 yo and working on farms. I will never get a penny back.

Just to make things better, I read an article recently saying that Gov Rick Scott, who was the CEO of the corporate hospital we work for (HCA) was caught by the FBI overseeing the largest Medicaid fraud in history. HCA settled or $1.8 billion but ended up only paying $800 million. Rick Scott resigned in disgrace but was given a $300 million golden parachute.

That was $300 million in 1997 dollars.

To add more hypocrisy, this corporstion is very fond of writing up employees for anything they can. If you get written up for anything, say clocking in 2 minutes late a couple of times, you don't get a raise.

Don't even get me started on salary caps for low level employees but not for the executives who are ALWAYS the ones that ruin the companies, cause lower profits and even cause them to go out of business.

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to poor

BTW, the article I read was about how Gov Rick Scott rigged the medical marijuana legislation in Florida to benefit himself and his rich crony friends. It is pretty much the same thing they tried to do in Ohio. Unfortunately, we are talking Florida and the few logical people still left there will not be able to stop it.

This past summer she called my mom, "help! I fell and can't get up!"
She has a wrist band with an alarm button, but she fell on top of her alarm hand and couldn't move. My mom was over at my sister's and called the care home she's at. There were NO STAFF at the home. My mom and sister jumped on their bicycles and helped Grandma up and she was unharmed and all. The staff arrived after the fact. sad2.gif

We applied for her to be moved to another care home

Times are tough and getting tougher. It was just announced that first time home buyers here will need a 20% downpayment to purchase a home instead of a 5% downpayment. How can young people ever hope to save that much money? sad2.gif

Yeah things are looking bleak indeed. We'll see what happens next...

My guess is it's going to get worse before it gets better. If it gets better...

I'll be surprised if "sovereign" USA still exist next year.
