A food safety advocacy group has downgraded its rating for sucralose, the artificial sweetener better known as Splenda, from "safe" to "caution" in its chemical guide to food additives.

The Washington-based Center for Science in the Public Interest announced Wednesday that it had long rated sucralose as "safe" but is now categorizing it with a "caution," pending peer review of an unpublished study by an independent Italian lab that found the sweetener caused leukemia in mice.

Previously, the only long-term animal-feeding studies were done by sucralose's manufacturers, the CSPI said.

Other artificial sweeteners such as saccharin, aspartame and acesulfame potassium have received the center's lowest rating, "avoid."

hug.gif Hey Shadow! How's life?
Good gawd, sugar may be bad, but much less dangerous than the alternatives.

Artifical sweeteners are awful poison, I cringe when people eat or drink diet anything. Aspartame is a great ant killer rofl.gif

sad2.gif they seem to think they're putting some effort into weight control by drinking diet pop but artificial sweeteners contribute to weight gain and diabetes. Just drink water and go for a walk. gaah.gif

Morning JB hug.gif I knew or heard of quite a few people cancer got the best of and only one was a smoker. I do think it's genetics and diet. Nature and nurture, not nature vs. nurture. I don't think salt is that bad if you use sea salt but table salt acts like powdered glass in your veins because of the additives, it doesn't disolve. I use nothing but sea salt. I buy meat from a local rancher and eat lots of veggies. Except I made the best salsa last week and had to buy corn chips 13.gif chuckle.gif

I read recently that those who reads labels on products they buy are on average 20% (don't quote me on that, it could be more could be less) healthier than those who don't. Sounds like your sweetie takes good care of you hi5.gif but I think you take good care of him too hug.gif

I buy those purple corn chips as they seem to have no salt on them, also I noticed in the store they now have low sodium corn chips. yay.gif

I rarely drink ginger ale only but mostly choose filtered water or carbonated club soda.

I like salty things. 13.gif

I use pink crystal salt mainly as it has an abundance of minerals, but sea salt for bigger projects such as salting a fish.
