Tis a big subject. Masons and Templars are not comparable. This is an area where I hope Rog will chime in.

This is the third and last of the Kadosh degrees, and consummates the Templarism of Masonry. The degree was originally a Christian degree of knighthood; its object was, for a long time, to reconquer the Holy Land and plant the Banner of the Cross once more on the ruined walls of Jerusalem. Many of the Knights of the Crusades were Masons, and thus became acquainted with the legend which Masonry had preserved.

The Knights Kadosh are the legitimate successors of the Templars.

None but earnest and sincere men, unselfish, and whose philanthropy is not a mere name, but a practical reality, should enter here - such as will do Masonry good service in the war which she is waging against the ancient enemies of the human race - a lover of wisdom and an apostle of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity.

Bodies of this degree are styled Consistories. The hangings are black, strewed with tears of silver, skeletons, human skulls, and cross-bones.

Before the throne is an altar covered with black satin, strewed with tears; on it are painted or embroidered a death's-head and two cross-bones;

My first introduction to the Knight Templar Apron was made on my first visit to the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Alexandria, Virginia. There in the ante room to the Lodge is a large portrait of Lafayette wearing a black apron featuring the skull and cross bones. After a bit of inquiry, I was informed that the apron was that of a Knight Templar, which was one of the many orders into which Lafayette was received while he visited the United States during the Colonial Revolution.

While little has been written on the dress of the early Templars, prior to Thomas Smith Webb's "Monitor" of 1797, there has been one suggestion has to the origin of the Templar Apron. In early references to the history of Templary in Great Britain, the following significant reference is made:

All Templar encampments were qualified to give the degrees of the "Rose Croix" and the "Kadosh" which had existed in England as Templar degrees years before the establishment of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.

Webb describes the apron as "White, with a black border; or black, with a white border. The flap black, and a skull and cross bones embroidered in silver thereon.

Who followed Davis and how did the Masonic Order of the Temple grow in the United States ? The second Knight Templar in America was created on 11 December, 1769. His name was Paul Revere, immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poern on his famous midnight ride. He was born in Boston on 1 January, 1735 and was apprenticed as a Silversmith and Engraver, which trade he followed all of his life and in which he achieved distinction. He was an avid Patriot, joining an expedition against the French at Crown Point in 1756, and was an ardent advocate of American Independence, wellknown for his activities at the Boston Tea Party. He was military minded, being appointed Major and afterward Lieutenant-Colonel of a regiment raised in Boston. He petitioned and received the Degrees of Excellent, Super-Excellent, Royal Arch and Knight Templar in St. Andrew's Chapter on 11 December, 1769.

1307 - 11 October, it is recorded in French Masonic history that the Templar ships leave at midnight from La Rochelle, heading to Scotland.

The Masons built stuff for the Knights Templar,,,

Masons Marks are on the stuff,,,

French Templars arrested in 1307 and tortured into making false confessions,,,

Masons were also arrested,,,

Both went underground,,,to keep from being killed,,,

Everything went silent,,,they supported each other,,,

they merged,,,in effect,,,and in practice,,,

Hence,,,the "secret" handshakes,,,codes,,,etc.,,,

travelers could find safe shelter,,,

real simple,,,much later on,,,

Kings is dead,,,

"Secrets" aren't such a big deal,,,

well,,,except to those who make a big deal out of it...

"Fallen" templars (those that accept the lie) are masons and knights of malta. Non-fallen templars (those that accept the truth) are not but neither are they "christian" in a traditional sense, they don't worship "Jesus" anymore. There was a schism once they unearthed the truth about christianity in Jerusalem. Templars/masons protected/continue to protect the lie and aided the vatican in hunting down and executing the non-fallen templars.
