Consciousness research.
The more you know the more baffling it all becomes. Coupled with other research in the area, it all goes to make the subject of consciousness a very deep rabbit hole to venture down.

It all adds up to another confirmation that, at least to some degree, we create our own reality.

[...]A new paradigm is emerging: that of the holographic universe. It is a paradigm in which consciousness, once thrown out as a useless imagining, is now acknowledged as the long sought after ‘missing link.’[...]

David R. Hawkins,[...] summarizes this new theory as follows: “Our brains mathematically construct concrete reality by interpreting frequencies from another dimension, a realm of meaningful, patterned, primary reality that transcends time and space. The brain is, therefore, a hologram interpreting a holographic universe.”

From this new perspective, it is evident that our conscious intention has a prominent role in determining our experience of the material world around us. If our physical brains are interpreting the energy fields of higher dimensions, then it stands to reason that our thoughts hold far more power over our material world than is currently accepted.

Thought itself has begun to be understood as emerging from energetic fields, which are beyond time, space and the material brain. When we think we are tapping into and simultaneously broadcasting these fields into our environment. Thus, we have a conscious choice as to which energy fields we decide to tap into, and each of these different fields has its own world view. [...]

A basic law of consciousness, which has long been realized by the mystic, is that what is held in mind tends to manifest itself. It is interesting that the direction of contemporary theoretical physics is now pointing towards this exact same realization. Scientific research is now confirming that our minds have the power to shape and create our reality. [...]

Great thread i mean like awesome eye opening and mind bending (*-*)

This is all so very vital and fascinating and im certainly not a nobel prize winning lauriete and I'm obviously no danny webster either, but for years I've thought that the apparent incomprehensibly vast distances of outer space between stars of the visible universe is only an illusion,a holographic illusion, just like amazingly if an image in the shape and form of a holographic cube is cut up into smaller pieces more and more, every single one of those sections will reveal the entire original image and thats unbelievable but true and thats what I think we are seeing, thats what i think we are perceiving whenever we look up out into the void and astoundingly I also believe that it is of super intelligent design by a class three alien civilization existing somewhere beyond our visible spectrum within another dimension?! > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_principle

Fascinating concept. I was just speculating the other day what if the adventures we experience during dreaming are in fact real life in another dimension or reality, and this reality is a dream state in another one. 13.gif

When we (our souls) are sleeping in this world we are dreaming of what we are doing upon other worlds when we are awake and when we are asleep in other worlds we (our souls) are dreaming of what we are doing when we are awake here upon this world and there may exist hundreds and thousands and millions and even maybe billions and trillions of other realities all existing simultaneously and eternally...

But then our perceived reality may actually be a super computer simulation of super intelligent design and we may have to fall asleep so our brains can be downloaded with virtual reality data that we obliviously upload and perceive as our new days reality when we awaken and our dreams may be strange fragments of that downloading process like omfg?!

Quote: Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

The experiment duplicates the Benjamin Libet experiments, and indicates we don't operate in real time as we perceive it.

It is quite likely that a large range of cognitive operations are necessary to freely press a button. Research at least suggests that our conscious self does not initiate all behavior. Instead, the conscious self is somehow alerted to a given behavior that the rest of the brain and body are already planning and performing. Excellent Wiki: The Neuroscience of Free Will
