Well I am gonna be the first here I guess. I am heading of to 'bonny' Scotland Tomorrow. It's firstly a holiday but who knows could be my 'Bugout'!

I will be updating this thread as often as I can.

It would seem we are living in times where considering and/or prepping to 'bugout' should be on all of our minds.

İmage

We currently have the Russia, Ukraine crisis deepening by the day. The Israeli, Palastinian conflict. The Fukushima Nuclear disaster that not only never goes away but becomes more of a danger every day. There is ISIS trying to take over the world with a B/S religion and ideology. And if that was not enough already there is the out of control Ebola ready to get you.

I am not going to attach the blame of any of these events on anyone. There are enough threads doing a good job of that here already. In reality this is not the time to be squabbling about these things. This is the time to think about how to best protect oneself and family.

So this thread is about preparing to 'bugout'. The how, where, when if you will. Feel free to contribute anything of relevance. B/S, abusive, call out, or off topic posts will be deleted.

I guess the first thing to consider would be where to 'bugout'.

You need to choose a place that offers you some kind of security. A hidden away cave or somewhere deep in a forest is a good consideration as too mountains. Try to find somewhere as remote as possible. You don't want any old clown stumbling upon your spot. Make sure you don't leave evidence of your presence. Keep your are tidy and free from trash. Set up a perimeter and protect that with early warning. This can be done with just some cord and old tin cans. Make sure you have an escape route planned for if you need to de-camp in a hurry.
You need to consider how your going to get water. So find a local source, stream, well, spring etc.
Make sure you are near a supply of fire material. Fire will be a good friend to you.

I will post much more in this thread as and when I can. For now I have to go out,I will be back later.

I'm very interested in seeing how your internet service will work. I hope you have a great experience, it's sort of a dress rehearsal 13.gif

Have fun and I am curious to know if you will be investigating the types of wild edibles (all year round) at this bugout location and if the location will have easy access to water and fishing.

The place I have chosen is in a nice 'Glen' with a good source of fresh water nearby and the chance of fishing. I hope there will be plenty of 'all year round' edibles and yes I shall be trying those out. cheers.gif

I have a good supply of 'smoke' and wine and beer making materials. So it won't be too boring.

I shall be regularly posting from the bunker.

I'm sure there's plenty of wild country up in Scotland. We've got a bug out cabin out in the woods that's entirely off the grid with plenty of fresh water.

I'm a little jealous, that's a tidy looking well set up camp. Make sure you have a hatchet and/or ax. Rope. Water purification tablets. Kerosene and lantern, water proof matches (lots of them) and a water proof (insulated) jacket. Hand crank flashlight and radio. H2O2. Good luck!!

Thanks Shadow. I have got everything I could think of. I have a lot of gear. Ok from this end but gonna be a biatch the other. I am gonna have to take what I can from the Station in Scotland and leave some at 'left luggage'. Then make a couple of trips in the first few days to get the rest.

Good luck out there.

I'm also curious about satellite internet if that is what you will be using.

I turned myself to consider wisdom and madness and folly

But the fool walks in darkness.
Yet I myself perceived
That the same event happens to them all.

Scotland is not too different from Norway. Lots of mountains, lakes, fresh water streams, some deer and other wild animals. Hope I can remember my trapping skills.

This is the area I am heading for.

If things got real bad I'd join you man, but got too many older and younger family members, so I'll go out quickly if things got bad.
