To me as a child, it was always mostly about cross-ski country vic.gif

Flat or hilly.

Yup.

This:

İmage

was the only times I even remotely enjoyed it.
No slopes, no hills.

But I much preferred skating out there...on the few occasions when
it was cold long enough before the snow came.

Hope all is going well. It's starting to get a little nippy in London now so not sure how it is where you are. I hope you managed to build a decent stove and used some mud for insulating the shack.

He said he had problems with his communication devices when the weather was bad. I'm afraid winter is coming and I'm pretty sure it's chillier up there than in London atm.

Up here moss has traditionally been used to seal up spaces between logs, it's still being used for that. The use has actually given name to the moss themselves, such as window lichen, wall moss and house moss.

This is window lichen, it's put between (double) windows to absorb moisture. Some people still put it between the windows for Christmas for decorative purposes mainly.

Looks like the chill is about to set in

Quote: Parts of Britain could this week see their coldest night of the year so far, with temperatures plummeting to as low as 23F (-5C) and the first snow of the winter.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights could be the chilliest of the year in some exposed, rural areas, the Met Office said. Temperatures will fall well below freezing in these areas, from the Scottish Highlands in the north to the South of England.

That's pretty cool. So many ways of old are good to know even in this modern world. The guy who taught me to hew an oak with axes said less than ten people in the U.K could do this. It's hard work and for quick builds it isn't ideal but it is still a skill I'm happy I learnt.

I was out having a coffee this morning and it was very cold. I overheard two people talking about frost on a car...shame; last Xmas was very mild.

It's mild here in Ontario, Canada this morning, but we are hoping for colder temps that will bring lots of snow so we can snowmobile and snowboard.

Well I am back after some problems with my laptop. It stopped working for some reason. But I got it repaired under guarantee. So all is well again.

It has turned very cold here - 7 last night with only +3 today. No snow as of yet but there is a chance this weekend for the first flurries.
