The workers at the Fukushima nuclear power plant 1, the third reactor has been evacuated after white smoke was seen rising from the building.

Earlier in the night came reports that pressure has risen in the hardest hit unit reactor 3, said Nuclear safety authorities.
The technicians were considering lowering the pressure by opening a hole in the reactor shell.

According to Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan improved situation in Fukushima "slowly", according to Kyodo news agency.

The power plant's operator says now that it has succeeded in connecting electric cables to all the six units, including units 3 and 4, which is considered to be the hardest-hit units.
But before the cooling system is in operation must be verified with a number of other mechanisms inside the plant.

13.gif The Mox reactor. No wonder there has been a near blackout in the media. If that reactor can not be brought under control, things could get quite bumpy.

Does no-one in charge realize that no news is VERY BAD NEWS ?
First full day of Spring and I have an inch of snow on the deck. I wonder if it's crapped up like a wipe at the nuke plant.

I'm in my seventh decade on Earth. I know things.

Yup, when we have to translate Swedish information to English just to be able to get the information in the first place, you know things are shaky and they don't want people to panic.

I'm thinking they probably didn't want to release pressure due to the wind direction (going straight for Tokyo) and it's raining. The fallout would have been massive...plutonium rain damned.gif ...And now they're dealing with the consequences

URGENT: Cooling system pump stops at Tokai nuclear power plant: fire dep't
TOKYO, March 14, Kyodo

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said a cooling system pump stopped operating at Tokai No. 2 Power Station, a nuclear power plant, in the village of Tokai, Ibaraki Prefecture.

http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/77481.html

This complex is about 80 miles S of Fukushima and would explain why levels are so high in Ibaraki. News has been pretty quiet about it. damned.gif

Meanwhile, the government's task force to tackle nuclear accidents instructed municipal governments near the crisis-hit Fukushima plant on Monday to ease conditions under which they require people to undergo mandatory decontamination.

A radiation level of 100,000 counts per minute will be introduced as a new standard for decontamination, up from 6,000 counts per minute, the government said, adding that raising the bar will not endanger health.

The government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said the decision was made based on advice from domestic nuclear experts and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Ah. They're buying time, that's why.

According to
http://modernsurvivalblog.com/nuclear/ra...n-network/
It takes 259 days @ 10,000 CPM to feel the onset of radiation sickness. Cancer risk @ 10,000 CPM is 4 days, health risk @ 2 days.
