Yeah, pretty close to me. I'm buying a geiger counter tomorrow and do my own testing. The gov has made clear they will not be making any radiation levels public. They say nothing to test for LOL! But if evacuation level for Chernobyl was 0.5 mcSv/h and South East BC is reading up to 1.68 I think there's something to be concerned about eh?

Gov't to announce new 'hot spots' near Fukushima plant within days

TOKYO, July 21, Kyodo

The government will announce new ''hot spots'' recommended for evacuation near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant possibly ''within the next couple of days,'' Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said Thursday.

Late last month, for the first time since the nuclear crisis was triggered by the March earthquake and tsunami, the government designated about 100 households in the city of Date in Fukushima Prefecture as being located in the so-called hot spots, where radiation levels are sporadically higher than other locations nearby.

The annual level of radiation is estimated to top 20 millisieverts in the spots and the government, as well as local authorities, is prepared to assist those who wish to evacuate from there.

http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/07/104138.html

the only surprise is that this didn't happen back in March. This is starting to seem like some experiment to gauge what type of levels of radioactive substances have what effect over a period of varying degrees. Tepco and the Japanese govt need to be more responsible regarding the health and safety of citizens.

It's been brutal here there's mudslides and roads washed out everywhere, flooding in the lower mainland. Been raining steady for 2 days now was +10C yesterday aft. I wore socks to bed last night cause I didn't light a fire and was freezing. I think we've had maybe 10 days without rain since winter.

I did fix my connection problem though

MIT's report on the 'incident' (unbelievable)

"The initial response of the nuclear industry and the U.S government to the Fukushima accident has been measured and rational (see Appendix B). However, the risk of over-reacting to an accident, particularly one as dramatic as Fukushima, remains high. The industry is concerned about the near-term effect of Fukushima on the process of life extension of current plants and the support for new construction projects. Under the pressure of the public and the media, the government may be compelled to push for sweeping policy and regulatory changes, which may ultimately prove to be unnecessarily onerous on existing and future plants. Decision-making in the immediate aftermath of a major crisis is often influenced by emotion. Therefore, the following questions should be addressed after searching for vulnerabilities at existing plants, but before enacting significant changes in nuclear energy regulations and policy. Does an accident like Fukushima, which is so far beyond design basis, really warrant a major overhaul of current nuclear safety regulations and practices?"

beercheer.gif can never have enough beer in the fridge.
Washington state and BC are both socked in cold and rain. The rest of US and Canada is burning up, record temps and fires and rolling blackouts all over. People complain about the prices at the produce stand, I tell them 'you ain't seen nothing yet' but they don't listen.

I know and it's right before their eyes to see. In two years bread, pasta, rice, other staples have more than doubled and with all the strange weather patterns wreaking havoc on crops it'll only get worse, toss in the speculators and it's a certainty prices will only keep rising. I heard a rumor that US truckers are going to strike (Obama just signed an agreement with Mexico to allow Mexican trucks all over the US and the Teamsters union is furious) if that happens it will get ugly.

Tokyo Electric's lax worker management found

The operator of the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has failed to confirm the whereabouts of 198 workers who are believed to have worked at the plant since the nuclear disaster started.

Criticizing the operator's lax personnel management, the health ministry has instructed Tokyo Electric Power Company to identify the workers and have those workers
checked for radiation exposure tests by next Friday.

In a report submitted to the ministry on Wednesday, the company admits that it has failed so far to confirm the whereabouts of the 198 workers, who are on the name-list of workers at the plant between March and April.

The company also reports that it has conducted radiation exposure tests on 8,338 workers, but still has to test more than 1,500 workers, including the 198.

The utility had reported last Wednesday that the number of missing was 132

omg damned.gif

It's odd how every time I voice concerns about the radiation I get the response "oh it's not that bad" like it's fact based even íf I know they've not followed this as closely as we have here on the forum vic.gif

Quote:In two years bread, pasta, rice, other staples have more than doubled and with all the strange weather patterns wreaking havoc on crops it'll only get worse, toss in the speculators and it's a certainty prices will only keep rising

It might be a good thing I get most of my carbs from beer 13.gif But yes, things will get ugly and we're preparing accordingly İmage
