Japanese people are dying due to the fallout

Google translation not being perfect, the Tweet comments have a eerie and haunting feel, as well as immense sadness at the loss of life.

Mainstream media reporting on what Japanese Govt admits... and it's probably much worse than that damned.gif

Quote:Fukushima caesium leaks 'equal 168 Hiroshimas'

Japan's government estimates the amount of radioactive caesium-137 released by the Fukushima nuclear disaster so far is equal to that of 168 Hiroshima bombs.

Government nuclear experts, however, said the World War II bomb blast and the accidental reactor meltdowns at Fukushima, which has seen ongoing radiation leaks but no deaths so far, were beyond comparison.

The amount of caesium-137 released since the three reactors were crippled by the March 11 quake and tsunami has been estimated at 15,000 tera becquerels, the Tokyo Shimbun reported, quoting a government calculation.

That compares with the 89 tera becquerels released by "Little Boy", the uranium bomb the United States dropped on the western Japanese city in the final days of World War II, the report said.

This could not have happened in a worse place. Japanese culture being what it is, they will stay in denial for a very long time and that will only cause more unnecessary deaths. We have a friend here that has a Japanese wife. Some of her family is near Fuckedupshima and some is in Tokyo. She was visiting there when all this happened. No one, including her family, will admit just how bad things are so she doesn't think things are bad. Now she wants to go back with their 2yo son for a visit in October.

A Japanese company has ordered all 2,700 of its employees to get identical hairstyles - to help save energy.

Tokyo-based Maeda Corporation announced the move as part of a national campaign to reduce energy consumption in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March.

Men are expected to sport a short back-and-sides, slightly longer on the top, while women have been asked to wear a 'cute' bob with a french that can be swept to one side.

Why not just have the men shave their heads? Then they could turn the AC off.

Nuclear plant worker dies of acute leukemia

TOKYO, Aug. 30, Kyodo

A worker in his 40s who had been engaged in recovery work at the crisis-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has died of acute leukemia, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Tuesday.

Tokyo Electric said the worker's death is not linked with his work at the plant, citing results of medical examination by doctors.

The man had been exposed to 0.5 millisievert of radiation at the plant and showed no internal exposure to radiation, said the power company, known as TEPCO.

Who'da thunk?

Quake risk to reactors greater than thought

WASHINGTON (AP) - The risk that an earthquake would cause a severe accident at a U.S. nuclear plant is greater than previously thought, 24 times as high in one case, according to an AP analysis of preliminary government data. The nation's nuclear regulator believes a quarter of America's reactors may need modifications to make them safer.
