lol.gif Yes I've noticed!

Deserted London 2012: Shops, theatres and businesses all empty as visitor levels fall by a THIRD over fears of Games travel chaos

- Games have pulled 100,000 foreign tourists into the capital, much lower than the 300,000 expected in a typical summer

- Leading London attractions see visitor numbers fall by 35 per cent

- Hotel bookings in London 'very substantially down'

- Businesses near sailing venues in Weymouth and Portland say this year's summer tourist season is the worst in half a century

This is what makes me shake my head in despair

Quote:"The complete official budget, initially pegged at $3.8 billion for the Games, has nearly quadrupled, and some estimates from British media have set the total cost at as high as $38 billion.

The 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta cost $2 billion US. Hosting costs grew to $4.8 billion in Sydney four years later. Athens is estimated to have spend between $15 billion and $32 billion on hosting the 2004 Olympics.

And, at $42 billion, the 2008 Beijing Games are widely thought to be the most expensive ever. Chinese authorities have declined to release the official figures needed to confirm that figure."

Unemployment skyrocketing, people losing their homes, cities going bankrupt, schools budgets slashed, hospitals in deplorable condition, but $38 billion for olympics? Nothing against the athletes or the sports, but this ... this is fascism.

A gold medal, which is worth $650, according to CNN, could cost athletes about $236 in taxes. While a bronze metal, which is worth $5, could only cost an athlete $2 in taxes
