According to Michtom’s article the average ‘Pay-to-Stay’ cost charged to each person incarcerated averages $0.00 to $60.00 per day (a per diem fee often assigned at sentencing) , with the costs being deducted from the cheap pay prisoners earn for labor while incarcerated.
Taxpayers pay for prisons like policing or schools. Right? Tax dollars build the prisons and pay the guards. Then the system is privatized, prisons and their incarceration sold to private corps. Taxes do not lessen. But the corps own a huge pop. of useless eaters, lets put them to work! Let's outsource these workers, take jobs from the taxpayers, then bill the prisoners AND the taxpayers for their room and board.Wow.
