In a forest of tubes eight metres high in eastern Spain, scientists hope they have found the fuel of tomorrow: bio-oil produced with algae mixed with carbon dioxide from a factory.

Quote:"We are trying to simulate the conditions which existed millions of years ago, when the phytoplankton was transformed into oil," said engineer Eloy Chapuli. "In this way, we obtain oil that is the same as oil today."

Nice find Kreeper, but it leads me to the question; if those conditions can be re-created in a lab in virtually no time, one has to wonder if at lest somewhere those conditions are not naturally occurring.

Quote: It appears that, unbeknownst to Westerners, there have actually been, for quite some time now, two competing theories concerning the origins of petroleum. One theory claims that oil is an organic 'fossil fuel' deposited in finite quantities near the planet's surface. The other theory claims that oil is continuously generated by natural processes in the Earth's magma. One theory is backed by a massive body of research representing fifty years of intense scientific inquiry. The other theory is an unproven relic of the eighteenth century. One theory anticipates deep oil reserves, refillable oil fields, migratory oil systems, deep sources of generation, and the spontaneous venting of gas and oil. The other theory has a difficult time explaining any such documented phenomena.

So which theory have we in the West, in our infinite wisdom, chosen to embrace? Why, the fundamentally absurd 'Fossil Fuel' theory, of course -- the same theory that the 'Peak Oil' doomsday warnings are based on.

An interesting read. I suggest everyone take a look.

Yeah, I've read about that. Of course, geologists tend to scoff at the idea. I tend to support it. The problem is, if people knew oil was continuously generated by the earth, the price would plummet and they would use it with reckless abandon. Think what that would do to the environment. It will never be proven until we kick the habit. If it is true, big oil will eventually have to explain why supplies aren't running out. I guess this is one thing that will definitely be proven or dis-proven with time. Just like 2012 but without a certain date.

Then again, some are already trying to say the 2012 date is off by 50 years or so...

No it's the old fuel. Vikings were able to beat the shït out of other people and take their stuff after sailing/rowing for weeks. Why? They ate algae. They were known to be tall and strong and you are what you eat beercheer.gif Algae back in Viking times was not polluted either, it's a nutritionally perfect, just like hemp, and I'm not really all that surprised to see "them" polluting waters all over the planet and not worrying too much about it...they're destroying our perfect food source so they can save us with their manufactured crap

The Aztecs farmed spirulina for food. I used to use drink it. You know how everything tastes like chicken? Spirulina probably tastes more like shït.

But I think the article is talking about fuel for cars.

Cars take you from point A to B as do legs, only slower....only difference is the leg way doesn't give you a reason to go to war, in fact it releases stress, improves the immune system and if you do it every day you have another million reasons to do so...only side effect is that your butt will look fantastic and you will have to spend more time having sex and that will burn calories...panic.gif Besides you don't have to stress out trying to find a place to park because you can do it ğkkin anywhere scream.gif

Or...

Driving gets you there faster, doesn't make your feet hurt, doesn't make your joints hurt, keeps you dry when it rains and snows, doesn't make you sweaty and doesn't make you stink. Besides, I buy American. I don't have a problem finding parking.

1. Driving gets you there faster - Depends on when and where

2. Doesn't make your feet hurt - Shoes are everything, but not as much as technique drinking.gif

3. Doesn't make your joints hurt - No, walking is joint friendly doobie.gif Seriously. The human body is made for walking and running, jogging is a man made exercise that puts all stress on your ligaments and joints

4. Keeps you dry when it rains and snows - violin.gif

5. doesn't make you sweaty and doesn't make you stink. - :chcukle: maybe one day someone will introduce sauna technology to your hemisphere: beerbong.gif

1) Ok, I'll walk to the bathroom, but I'm driving to the beer store.

2) Technique? Yes, one foot in front of the other when drunk is difficult to master... beercheer.gif

3) You must mean strolling. Pick up the pace dammit! Your beer is getting hot!

4) Keeps your violin dry too.

5) You let stinky people sit nekkid in your sauna? damned.gif

6) I see you didn't have much to say on my parking technique. chuckle.gif
