I was researching stuff for a horror movie script. It's pretty awesome stuff I came across

Quote:The two species are not genetically compatible. The North American beaver has 40 chromosomes, while the Eurasian beaver has 48. After more than 27 attempts in Russia to hybridize the two species, the result was one stillborn kit that was bred from the pairing of a male North American beaver and a female Eurasian beaver. The aforementioned factor makes interspecific breeding unlikely in areas where the two species' ranges overlap.[2]

We do have beavers here, both European and American, but they're not very common

Quote:Some Eurasian beavers are present in Finland, but most of the Finnish population is a released population of C. canadensis, the North American species. (These animals were imported to Finland in 1937, when it was not yet known that C. canadensis was a different species from the Eurasian beaver.)

I was mislead by her title, also. I thought this was going to be an educational thread but it was just some sciencey mumbo jumbo about big rats.

But, Octo, imagine what horror traits you could come up with/write with those extra 8 chromosomes
