Thursday is named after Thor and oh boy was he busy today. damned.gif We've been having fierce thunder storms since early this morning and there's more to come.

Check out the radar http://www.flcenter.net/static/blitzortung/europe.html

We had to shut down the modem and computers it was right on top of us for hours, it would suck to fry the electronics. uhoh.gif

Warning issued as lightning bolts rain down on Finland

A record number of lightning strikes have been recorded on Thursday as storms range over large swathes of the country.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) issued a warning shortly before 3pm Thursday of potentially dangerous thunderstorms in Central Finland, Southern Ostrobothnia and Central Ostrobothnia over the next few hours.

The FMI says that these severe storms may generate wind gusts of more than 25 metres per second. The met office also warns of heavy rains of more than 30mm an hour in eastern Finland, and of more than 20mm per hour in western areas.

Actually, the last number of lightning strikes counted was at 21 000 at 4 pm.

I was on my way home from town (on my bicycle) trying to out-ride the second storm behind me. I was about 50 meters from the door when the first huge rain drops started falling so I didn't get too wet on the outside.

Not so hot at the moment, been around 20C today during the storms. But yes, same weather system is still prevailing so it's still pretty hot and humid in the eastern parts of the country. We're having some rains and probably thunder come through here the next few day and we have highs of about 25C, which is plenty fine.
