This is so bad.

Quote:He decreed a fine of £150 for every day the tribe remains on the land, on the banks of Brazil's Joguico River.

A spokesman for the tribe today said they do not intend to fight the judge's decision but would rather die on the land than be made to leave.

Damn! Thanks for bringing attention to this.

It's absolutely horrendous, but what we can do from this side of the world is bring attention to it. I'm afraid that's all I can do personally. So many wrongs in this world sad2.gif

Of course they don't count because they are heathens. 15.gif There are resources to be had - let's take their lands and demonize them like they did with the Native Americans.
The inquisition is here to stay.

In the USA things work a little differently.

Since the court decision that the tribes can gamble on tribal property, Indians have been putting up casinos and raking it in.

After 250 years of the white man stealing from the Indians, the Indians are stealing from the white man.

The Sandinistas killed the Miskito Indians directly which is probably worse than driving them off their land. It would appear the USA treats its Indians better than the South American countries.

I know a couple of Chippewa Indians. The Indians used to be treated sort of like black people. Now with the Casino money rolling in, a significant chunk of Manistee County is owned by the Indians. They are buying their land back one piece at a time.

A lot of people in Manistee County think letting Indians have Casino's is bad. I kind of straddle the fence. They weren't treated right before, now they are getting their share. It is a bit destructive to the community. At some point something will have to be done to restore a balance. Right now I am still in the wait and see mode.

What is happening in South America to Indians is just inexcusable. Obama to my knowledge (I never listen to him so I wouldn't know) hasn't staked out a position and that is a little shameful. The native South Americans deserve less kicking around than they get.

In BC any industry (mining, logging for ie) has to do an archeological survey before they put in a road, generally indians show up, claim it as 'sacred ground' get a few million pay-off then wait for the next project approval. There's one mine just N of here that has paid out millions 6 or 7 times to the same tribe. I'd think this is different though I don't know.

those indians down there are fighting back

here is my Great Grand Mother

she was Full Seminole

when the depression of the '30's hit

My GG father bought up the surrounding farms and ranches at auction

The white women spurned her at church and whenever they came to town before this

My GG's became even wealthier from the entrepreneurship

The White People despised them greatly forever on after

GG mother spoke to me and would paint it so i could FEEL it

It is good to FEEL sometimes

How i feel is this

This is Red Soil

My dad always treated everyone respectfully including the Indians. I don't believe he knew how to discriminate. I'm sorry your white men adhered to a lower standard.

I've noticed that progressives don't increase progress but seem to retard it.

Don't know why. Probably not philosophical enough to understand some subtlety.
