True Cost of a Flawed Health Care Paradigm

By Dr. Mercola

Americans spend twice as much on health care per capita than any other country in the world; in fact, according to a series of studies by the consulting firm McKinsey & Co, the US spends more on health care than the next 10 biggest spenders combined: Japan, Germany, France, China, the U.K., Italy, Canada, Brazil, Spain, and Australia.

Other astounding statistics include:

The US spends more than 17 percent of our gross domestic product (GDP) on healthcare

If the US health care system was a country, it would be the 6th largest economy on the entire planet

While the US makes up only five percent of the world’s population, Americans consume over 50 percent of all the world’s pharmaceutical drugs

Overall, Americans also pay 50 percent more than other countries for identical drugs, as a result of laws and regulations preventing the US government from reining in drug prices like other nations do

Despite all of this spending and pill-popping, the US ranks dead last in terms of quality of care among industrialized countries, and Americans are far sicker and live shorter lives than people in other nations. Clearly, we have taken a wrong turn down the wrong road somewhere...

And clearly other countries don't give a rat's ass whether the US thinks their healthcare systems are socialist or not. There's obviously many layers of flaws in there.

I'm pinning this due to the fact the real issues like prescription drug cost for example, have not been addressed in the Affordable Care Act.
This is the elephant in the living room that will kill it.

I'm an American, I'm awake so here's my medical bill. The occupational therapy is particularly amusing. She handed me a toothbrush.

The minor surgery was apparently a pace maker battery replacement.

Most things can be cured for $10. Cure the hard stuff for $50.

Curing is cheap. 'Managing' sickness is what's so damn expensive.

If you mangle yourself in a car wreck or something like that, then sure it'll cost more. But 99% of the stuff most people deal with doesn't cost much at all.

Heart attack with blue lips? Squirt a hot pepper tincture into the lips until the person comes around. Cost? One or two dollars.

There are so many ways to cure cancer it isn't even funny.

ohemeffengee.. the poster that posted their medical bills.. ffs.. that is insane.. the whole thing would be free in my country, and with good doctors..

the OP post.. hell yeah.. Americans have been screwed on the healthcare, socialism rubbish (as i have mentioned many times before).. and it isnt obamacares fault.. (even though obamacare is shït).. their whole system needs to be taken out of the hands of the healthcare companies and handed over to the government 100%.. so they can start from scratch again.. cause there is nothing first world or superpower about being a sick American.. its a human disgrace in this modern day world..

iagree.gif You don't need insurance at all here, and you only pay a small amount IF you even use it.
I guess it makes too much sense for the US to model their system after.

im 40 and have never had health insurance.. loads of people have it, but when they end up having to be in hospital, most of the time they end up in the public system cause the doctors are so good.. from some americans i have met in real life, they seem to think that our public system is something from the ice age.. nop.. and its free..
