Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the Turkish Army entered Syria to end the rule of President Bashar Assad, whom he accused of terrorism and causing the deaths of thousands.
“We entered [Syria] to end the rule of the tyrant al-Assad who terrorizes with state terror. [We didn’t enter] for any other reason,” the Turkish president said at the first Inter-Parliamentary Jerusalem Platform Symposium in Istanbul, as quoted by Hurriyet daily.

Erdogan said that Turkey has no territorial claims in Syria, but instead wants to hand over power to the Syrian population, adding that Ankara is seeking to restore “justice.”

Wow. That came out of nowhere.

Or maybe they just fear Trump and decided to clean up the Middle East before he can...

Dayum.

Just let Vlad annex/rebuild the place in exchange for his warm water sea port.

Who gives a rat's ass whether Assad remains?

Level the place, build condos, send all immigrants home. The oil is still there. In fact, that's the ONLY thing that is there ~ nothing remains in anything that's loosely called a 'country.' At the pace of progress in the area it will take two or three generations before (if ever) it becomes 'civilized' again.

Well, considering Syria’s Central Bank is state-owned & controlled, there's no IMF debt, it's one of the last secular Muslim states in the region, and add massive oil and gas reserves to that - then there's a multitude of reasons for banks and petroleum interests to 'leverage' politicians to oust Assad in favor of any puppet govt who will allow the banks and oil companies to bleed it dry.
One thing we can probably all agree on is it's got nada to do with concerns for human rights.
