Actually, prospects for finding oil there are quite high if you do some Googling, but things are too unstable all the way around for oil companies and world bank to do the usual infrastructure loans to develop it.
They give these loans for roads, bridges and other items the people who live there will never use, it's for oil logistics only.
These loans are made knowing full well they will default default on loans they could never pay anyway, with the purpose being, banks and oil companies end up owning ALL the rights.

UK's Secret Oil Deal with Somalia
February 27th, 2012

There is a lot of oil in East Africa and just off the coast in the Indian Ocean.
A few years ago, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted their own analysis...
Their conclusion: Over 71 billion barrels of crude lay untouched in shallow pockets dotting the East Africa region.
These deposits, it turns out, are a mirror image of the Middle Eastern fossil fuel super-system.
As I wrote last week, Obama and his NATO allies want that oil.
The Americans and the French have large numbers of special forces soldiers in Djibouti right next to Somalia.
On the surface, they are there to halt piracy. But they're really after the extension of Saudi oil fields which run into Africa.

Hillary Wants It

There was a major international meeting in London last week.

Hillary Clinton, David Cameron, and forty other high-level diplomats met to talk about bringing peace to Somalia and destroying the al-Qaeda-backed force of al-Shabaab.

A few days before the meeting, the UN raised the African Union force that's on the ground in Somalia from 12,000 to 18,000.

Some local websites are reporting al-Shabaab leadership has fled to Yemen, but it's too soon to know for sure...

The summit followed a surprise visit by British Foreign Secretary William Hague to Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, where he discussed "the beginnings of an opportunity'' to rebuild the country. Britain also appointed an ambassador to the country.

Turkey went so far as to set up an embassy.

Getting Serious

The battle for Mogadishu and the Black Hawk down story happened 18 years ago.

So why are the U.S. and its allies getting serious now?

Simple. The world needs oil.

Brent Sea Crude is above $125 a barrel and Europe is facing a severe depression.

In a back room over cooling tea and crumpets, Britain proposed giving Somalia humanitarian and security aid in exchange for drilling rights.

I wont pretend I know much about Africa but I do know that we never hear anything about the atrocities that occur daily over there.

Its crazy they dont even have a .gov unless warlords count.

Now for my WW3 prediction......North Korea will be making noise again shortly. Turmoil on every continent is not a good thing.

Africa is the richest continent on earth counting natural resources. That's why it's important to keep them in poverty with corrupt govts while we steal their stuff.

A Budding Alliance: Vietnam and the Philippines Confront China

WASHINGTON, Mar 22 2014 (IPS) - Last year, the Philippines brought a complaint against China’s aggressive actions in the West Philippine Sea to the United Nations Arbitral Tribunal. It was a master stroke by the Philippine government.

The Chinese “were really unprepared for that and were really embarrassed by it,” one of Vietnam’s top experts on Chinese diplomacy told me during my recent visit to Hanoi to give a series of lectures on foreign policy and economic issues.

From article--

Quote:None of the key players in East Asia today may want war. But neither did any of the Great Powers on the eve of the First World War. The problem is that in a situation of fierce rivalry among powers that hate one another, an incident may trigger an uncontrollable chain of events that may result in a regional war, or worse.
